the other thing about ainge is that he doesn't fall in love with his players and isn't interested in overpaying to keep his own guys. if the thinks brown and tatum are redundant (they are, imo), he'll move whichever one he likes less before he has to ink an extension. so brown's sort of not a key piece, imo. they'll give him up easily (but will pretend it's like sophie's choice). i don't think he'll move that kings pick, though. the kings are sucktacular, and that pick is going to be HIGH, no matter the year.

he'll offer brown and memphis's pick, plus one of the other firsts they've got laying around. that trumps ingram/kuzma/deng (future picks--for no good reason--are valued more than solid players, and deng's an albatross) and thus keeps leonard from going cheap to a rival. he probably has no real intention of actually getting him; he just doesn't want philly or la to snag him for nothing. same thing i was saying about making sure we make a legit offer. i thought our offer for george last summer wasn't strong enough, and it allowed a really unfortunate series of events to unfold.

Kawhi takes you from almost a lock to an absolute lock, and then not just being in the Finals, but actually having the players to win it. Also, Brown and picks isn’t blowing the team up. It’s a player swap, for a much better player. I believe if they got Kawhi while retaining Hayward, Kyrie, and Tatum, he’d re-sign there, it’s a pretty big market for shoe deals and such. Isn’t it fun arguing in circles? Anti-jinx 4 lyfe baby! Ahh, I can’t wait til it’s July already ...

Chris Paul & James Harden almost did them in. Quinn was playing meaningful playoff minutes for them, McGee and Nick Young played minutes throughout the playoffs, David West played well all season. They had a serviceable bench, 2 MVPs and 2 All-Stars - Iguodala missing time had something to do with their struggles no doubt, but how good Houston was had more to do with it IMO.

I think Ainge only makes deals when he comes out on top. It's a good way to be, and they've obviously benefitted with a lot of luck going their way. Just from seeing their roster turnover, you can see Ainge is the kind of guy - just like McHale - that will tinker with the team to get a step closer to a championship. After IT's season, no one had them trading for Kyrie and everyone assumed from their draft picks and internal growth they'd be a force in 3-4 years. Then they signed Hayward and got Kyrie and they were one of the top teams in the east.

I think he absolutely ships out some of those hoarded draft picks, Rozier, Brown, Morris, Smart, Semi, Hayward, Horford or even Kyrie to get an MVP candidate. Tatum is probably the only untouchable. That's a lot of assets and everyone keeps telling me when trading for an injured, disgruntled star you don't get a huge return: so 2 x firsts, Brown, Rozier and Morris should do it then?

By all reports, the C Bags went after PG and offered a much better deal than OKC at the time (3 x firsts, Crowder, Avery Bradley) but Indiana didn't want to trade to an East rival. So they went ahead and got Kyrie instead in a trade when the cost for PG was too high. They also signed Hayward and had Tatum and Brown so they probably were happy on the wing without him. I honestly think C Bags are going to try and trade for Kawhi, and then try to team him with AD next year.

    Kyrie
    Bag of Chips
    Kawhi
    Tatum
    AD

Losing Rozier, Brown, Morris, Hayward and Horford plus 5 or 6 picks isn't a big deal when you have 2 MVP caliber players plus Kyrie and Tatum. At that point you're GSW x 2 and you can fill out your roster with 2 or 3 ring chasers to make up your bench.

I think we have wildly different valuations of these players.

    ^^^Jus returning the favor :Fishwink:

Btw, its rumored that a Philly offer for Kawhi has been made:

I'm assuming that 1st round pick is #10, but Philly also has #26 also. And they also have 4 2nders this summer as well.

^^^ That Boston offer would beat anything we could offer. An all-star, Brown, and a pick? I don’t know that they’d offer that for a “rental” though, unless they really don’t want Kyrie long-term, he is starting to have a long injury history.

Here's my offer to the Spurs, assuming Leonard is healthy:

Ingram, 25th pick, 47th pick, Zubac, Luol Deng.

That's a fair offer in the sense that Kawhi demands only the Lakers.

After this the Domino effect happens

PG and LJ jump ship on this perfect situation.

They each take $5 million less each

We retain Randle with cap hold (promising whisper for next year)

    MLE Lopez

    Veterans min for Mario Chalmers

    Zo/Mario
    Kawhi/Hart
    Pg/kuz
    LeBron/T. Bryant
    Randle/Brook

Obviously that would make the perfect summer in history but nothing is impossible....

Woj is really going downhill. His take on the Lakers possible offer? "Ingram and some other young players." Thanks for that, Captain Specific!

Seriously, hIs move to ESPN has been awful. I feel like he used to be able to say whatever he wanted and now he has to be very careful.

If the 76ers offer of Fultz/Saric/10th overall pick is real we will unfortunately have to offer both Ingram/Kuzma and 25th to compete with that....

Kawhi's agent can easily scare off other suitors by saying he'll be only a rental except with the Lakers. Why would any team gut their assets for a rental. Notice in my hypothetical I mentioned "Kawhi demands only the Lakers" section that I wrote :)

    ATL: Deng, Pau, TB, 18, 25, 47
SA: Shroeder, Bazemore, LA '20 1st rounder, Kuz, Hart, Zu, 30
    LA: Kawhi

ATL takes in less guaranteed contracts of Deng and Pau (compared to Shroeder/Baze) and for their troubles gets draft compensation and TB. Pau and Deng will be valuable vets to the youth development in ATL.
SA gets their Parker/Gino replacement in Shroeder and they get their Kawhi perimeter defender/Gay replacement in Bazemore. They shed Pau's salary but take on salary that will be more useful being that they're younger. They also replenish the the youth stable with Kuz, Hart, Zu and the 30th.
LA gets to host a home coming for their guy.
