100% believe those reports that SA will try their hardest not to deal kawhi to a WC team

i know buford is the GM but pop has massive influence over these deals and he's an old school, military guy. exactly the type of guy who would refuse to trade him to a WC team

i wonder what philly could give up for him though? still think the C Bags have the best shot at acquiring him

Yeah, no, the Spurs can take a solid offer for a player with a possibly degenerative injury, or they can let him walk.

This has been my point. Why would they spurn the best offer. Does that sound like a Spurs kind of move?

In the end, they're losing Kawhi no matter what so who cares where he lands? It's fans that hold to vendettas like that, not teams.

Im starting to cool on this as well. I really want to see what kind of leaps Zo, Ingram, and Kuzma can take next year.

And while some think Lebron and PG might stifle their development, I think the opposite. Playing alongside superstars would do a lot for our young core’s long term development IMO.

    I think in a few years, Ingram+Zo+Kuz+Randle >>> Kawhi.

And that’s nothing against Kawhi, I just have high hopes for our young guys. So let’s not sell low on them yet, especially if we still can maneuver to get Kawhi next year.

This is where they have to get creative; it took a 4-team deal to get the Dwight deal done; start making phone calls.

I'm not sold that's true. We've heard some rumors of teams gauging interest, but the only actual offer we've heard is actually #12/Harris from the Clippers.

That's it. That's the only offer we know of thus far. Other than that, there's rumors of something built around Jaylen Brown/Kings pick next season (a weaker draft). All of this crazy "Lonzo, Ingram, Kuzma, 15 draft picks" type of talk came from the hysteria of the moment (me included!). The Lakers could throw together Ingram/Kuzma/Deng and that's better than those other two offers by a wide margin.

Ingram/Kuz is still a better return than a mid-lottery pick and Jaylen Brown by a wide, wide margin. What else are the Spurs doing with that cap space? Besides, push come to shove, you include a protected pick in there as well to off-set salaries. It's still a better deal. Easily a better deal actually.

Yeah Jaylen Brown with the Kings pick is NOT a better offer than Ingram/Kuz/Deng/2018 pick.

Now if they are including Tatum or Kyrie or Hayward in the offer plus the Kings pick and possibly one or two of their other 18 first round picks? Fine. That's a better offer than anything we can put together.

But we know the C Bags are not going to offer any of those players for Kawhi (espeically since he won't be signing an extension)

sac pick could easily be top 10 again, they say they have no reason to tank, doesnt mean they wont still suck. why is bos only opt? if clipps offered 12th n 13th with harris, thats better too, harris can get that much better with pops n 12/13 could net players better than kuzma n of course no denchor

I have been starting to wonder if Kawhi and Co are playing up the injury a bit by being uncommunicative on the subject to put off teams but are slipping info to Mag/Robbin's way that he is going to be 100% healed. It could be a good way to work this. It could scare off Boston, Clippers. The Lakers are acting like it's a deterrent as well which would be the smart initial reaction. Work his market value down. Then Kawhi needs to start talking and say "I will absolutely 100% sign elsewhere if I am traded anywhere but to the lakers". Couple that with a great offer. As much as it sickens the Spurs to deal with us, they may bite on that.

Most teams run 7 main players in the playoffs so I don’t see it as difficult go round out their roster with a ring chaser or two. In 04 Malone got injured which was unfortunate otherwise I think we win.

This year Golden State came up against another historically good team, CP3 and Harden when healthy together were winning at a historic pace. It’s no shame to be pushed to 7 by them.

I dunno I think having 5 potential all stars in the starting unit is ridiculous. Apart from injuries not much is stopping a team like that.

well, the shame was in the how, imo. no dominant team should allow any minutes with pj tucker at center.

but i'm on your team regarding the bench: nobody wanted half the rockets' roster two years ago. now they look good. javale mcFREAKINGgee played meaningful nba finals minutes.

who cares about the other 5 if you have 3 mega stars. joel anthony was a starting center.

I'm sure the Warriors would disagree which is why they're placing such a big premium on their draft picks this summer. They know they ran a thin as **** bench and the loss of Andre Iguodala almost did them in.

The C Bags are in no position to make a rash move. Why bother? They're almost a lock to be in the ECF, if not the Finals. Blow up the team for an expiring contract with an injury history? When has Ainge ever been that guy? I've yet to hear a good example of how/when the C Bags were that team to make that call. The only close thing is the trade last season, but was the really such a all-in bet? They've still got plenty of assets.

Here's the question: if they were willing to make those types of moves, why haven't they yet? Throw the kitchen sink at Anthony Davis. They could have went hard after Cousins and George last summer, they didn't and they won't. Ainge only makes deals that he knows he's going to win in a landslide.

Hova just got named as president of basketball ops for Puma and you know Jay is going to be bringing in all his Tidal clients into that deal (RiRi just got a deal).

He swipes up Bagley, Zhaire and Ayton with new shoe deals and now you have to think that he's got his sights higher.

Doesn't Kawhi have a beef with Jordan brand and is looking for a new shoe deal? LA market...Puma making moves...yet another angle to this whole Kawhi saga.

anthony davis hasn't been for sale. cousins went for nada. ainge held his assets on jimmy butler, but spent on kyrie. he'd spend on leonard, imo.

anyway, if i'm the lakers, i'm just trying to up the bidding right now. we don't need to see leonard go to a rival for a cousins-esque haul.

Again, spent what for Kyrie? A broken (and he knew he was broken) Thomas, a role player or two, and a single pick? Whoopty doo. He didn't spend on Butler, thanks for that reminder.

Ainge isn't a risk taker, he wants only deals he'll win. Trading all his assets and depth for Kawhi is a big risk when he doesn't need to take one.
