Pop's comments regarding Pau Gasol trade back in 2008..."trade committee"
Spurs ownership complaining about the Lakers getting Cp3 in 2011
There was also a report out earlier this year in April stating that Pop wouldn't trade Kawhi to a west rival

This is what I'm going off of...and I don't see that changing even if we do produce the best package for Kawhi. They'll deal with Boston first before LA because nobody wants to help us get back to being relevant again. The league wants to enjoy keeping the Lakers down for a bit longer...

That's a better argument to me than the "Spurs won't trade with the Lakers" angle.

i 100% believe that pop would try his hardest to not trade kawhi to the lakers. why help out a team in the same conference that's on the up?

    Someone mentioned this:

    Yes, temper expectations guys.

Realistically it seems unlikely Kawhi gets traded here:

    1) Kawhi's people (uncle) is using the Lakers name to get San Antonio to offer Kawhi the supermax.

    2) Popovich unlikely trades their star player to a conference rival.

    3) Other teams have far superior assets. Think about it, just the fact that most scenarios have us needing to trade/include Deng's contract is making other teams laugh at our offer.

    4) Kawhi’s camp can keep saying Lakers or bust but they don’t have the same leverage. This is not the same as Indiana/PG situation. Other teams will take the risk of 1 year Kawhi because they know that if Lakers get LeBron and George, they'll have no cap space next summer to sign Kawhi as a free agent. So Kawhi’s camp doesn’t have as much leverage to get him to Lakers. Other teams will take Kawhi’s bluff and trade for him.

I almost just feel like checking back in 2-3 weeks.

Wait for the nonsense to subside and decisions to be made.

So does anyone know how a potential sign and trade with Randle would work?

    1) doesn't look like he's thirsty for the super man.

2&3) it doesn't matter what pop wants and if other teams have/are willing to offer more assets if Kawhi can just chill for a year and let's it be known hell just sign with us for free.

yeah it's ok to get excited about the possibility of lebron/PG but kawhi is most likely not happening

he can say he wants to play for the lakers all he wants but if they ship him to boston there is no way he'll leave a championship contender after one season to come to LA

Lol. You don't know what you're talking about. How are you gonna tell Kawhi what he wants. He has the leverage by just waiting a year to have full control of his destiny.

That could make Kawhi gag himself, it really doesn't matter if they're a young promising team. Especially when we can put a team together around him that's better.

You dont serve someone a chocolate shake when they ask for hot chocolate. Kawhi has let it be known officially he wants hot LOS Angeles chocolate.

It would hard cap both teams at the luxury cap, but as long as salaries match, it's doable for both sides.

This completely. The idea that Pop wouldn't trade with us for some grudge reason is 100% fan/media driven.

If we get out-offered, that's another story. That's what makes Kawhi's end so important. He has to drive off suitors with repeated, clear demands of LA or bust.

If Kawhi becomes available, I have a strong feeling the Lakers will do absolutely everything the can to get him. I don't believe this is a Paul George situation where the Lakers made only modest attempts at a trade. I believe we'd put all the kids on the table and tell them to pick what they want.

Keep in mind, it would be impossible to get Kawhi, LeBron, and George if we had either Ingram or Ball on the team due to their high salaries as #2 picks. Things will get very interesting the next week or so. I expect there to be some sort of resolution at or before the draft. Either he gets traded somewhere or the Spurs decide to sit on him and trade him at the deadline (which might be better for us actually).

Just wait 5 days. Things will happen that day of the draft.
Teams will take that bluff because they know Lakers can’t sign him next year. Unless you literally mean “free” as in $0 or vets min then good for Kawhi we should put up a statute for him for taking nothing.

The problem for the Spurs if they care about picks being included in any trade package next year's draft is considered quite weak compared to this one. Which back up your claim and on that I agree with this should move swiftly in the next week or so. If SAS want picks or a good pick this is the year to do something.
