I disagree, only getting PG would still be a home run of a summer. Who have we signed the last 5-10 years as good as him? Signing the best player you have gotten in years is reason to cheer not jeer. Lonzo/PG/ingram/Randle/Lopez ....Kuz,hart . Is a playoff team. That will lead to more players signing
Thats fine...its your opinion to disagree. Still, its my opinion that just PG this summer is a let down. You're cool with a playoff berth....I'm not cool unless we're playing in June. You're cool with sitting on that cap space and having it roll into '19, as Jules takes a huge bite into it (meaning that even if we stretch or trade Deng for no salary in return, we most likely don't have a max slot for the '19 summer)...I'm not cool with waiting on Klay (who's repeatedly expressed his desire to stay in the bay), Ky (who thinks he's smarter than he really is and ain't built tough), Klaw (who could just be posturing with SA to get that supermax as he heals up on "company time"). 5 years fam of striking out in free agency and the postseason. They turned 1 max spot into 2. So they're loading up these bases to obviously do one thing. f*** baby steps....grand slam the s*** out that mother f***er.
PG signing is a home run to me for sure. Add Lebron and it's a grand slam. Resign Randle and Lopez or get a third superstar, wow, we are really talking. But basically I'm with you Vash in that I'm sick of losing. I want us to win and have a shot at taking down Golden State. I'm pretty sure Magic is in that mindset as well.
2 max free agents would definitely be a touchdown in the 4th quarter comeback for the ages, and 3 strikes in the 10th frame. Or that empty net goal to ice the opponent in overtime. Etc.
PG alone, i'm still happy, though i agree with vasashi that it DOES mean the FO's plan didn't work. i'll be extra annoyed if a capped out team gets lebron after all the work to generate cap space. all that said, if only PG comes, i'd actually consider a three-year (third year a team option) deal to cousins with the bulk of the remaining cap. yeah, it's a huge risk, but i'd rather not sit around and wait for next summer's FA crop to dry out, too. if cousins really wants to play here, it's worth a flyer (again, assuming no lebron). also means you don't have to stretch deng and have 7 million in dead cap for five years. in fact, deng becomes a big expiring the following year (as would cousins, functionally), setting the lakers up to be major players on the trade market should things not go as well as planned.
http://okcthunderwire.usatoday.com/...ep-paul-george-free-agency-than-once-thought/ The connection they make is paper thin. I dont really understand it. That being said, I'm not surprised this leaks nearly around the time people start bringing up Durant's name. Weird posturing going on.
They just pulled a quote from Marc Stein so they could write the article. But here's Stein's quote: I don't get it. How does posting a picture of surgery show he wants to stay in OKC?
Exactly. Either way, it sounds as if they are reaching; if Paul declines an opportunity to play with Lebron and come home, that is just stupid and one decision he will regret.
Honestly if he turned down playing at home with LeBron to play with Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony in Oklahoma, that'd make him one of the dumbest players I've ever heard of.
Ok, here's the hilarious truth. I think I remember the photo. He was wearing something with Thunder colors, not Laker colors. That obviously was a secret code message from Paul George to his loyal fans that he is going to resign with the Thunder.
1. we're assuming lebron now? george is going to houston? 2. marc stein is pretty credible. his reference is obtuse, but i doubt he's just bullshitting. not his style, historically.
