Performance of what? Stats? What exactly is the performance you are talking about? I don't give a flying eff about stats. I care about WINNING.
It really might be all a moot point on the 12-18 mill talk.. After thinking about it if a team signs him to an offer sheet of 20 mill a year at 12:05, then what assuming Lebron needs atleast a week to think about it?
Lebron likely takes his time to make his decision. PG signs quick. Lakers have a plan. Only thing left in the air right now is how to rid themselves of Deng. That likely would probably be next year.
Also, I do not think there is a team out there that dumb to go 4 year 80 mil. Even Dallas. And if they do, I seriously think Mark Cuban should give operational decisions to someone else. They may be that dumb. They keep a walking corpse on the team still and he is coming back for another year. Not sure what the hell they are doing there.
I really think Dallas will lol. They're not gonna penny pinch and aren't in a value type of position imo. I can see them falling for Randle to pair with Smith. Maybe then they trade #5 for a wing.
Thanks for the input Uncle Rico. Not sure why I even bother. Your incredible basketball knowledge had you say this guy was barely an NBA player last year. Or how this scenario reminds you of Erick Dampier. You’ve even found a parallel for Julius with Deng. That is not rational human behavior and I’m the bigger dummy for even wasting my time responding to you.
They parallel because a league with a salary cap says so. If you thought I meant talent then maybe it's you who needs to reevaluate your reading comphension. Randle sucked before this year. This year he played his arse off and gave you nice stats in a contract year. Thus why I used Erick Dampier as an example. Players tend to do that alot. Then once they get their money, tend to relax. Randle has shown signs of relaxing even before then. Thus, I am not willing to risk 20 million per year for the next 5 years on a guy who has had focus issues his entire career and is a role player. Your guys' myopia for this guy is a waste of time. Lakers have bigger fish to fry.
If it means more wins. I'll say I'm wrong. however if LeBron and PG come and he stays somehow, I hope you don't think he's the difference.
I'll be honest...if we have to make a decision on Randle before we know what's happening with PG or LeBron...lock him up and DUMP DENG with 2 first round picks. I know we don't want to do this because there's a chance PG and LeBron don't come...but screw it. We have to dump Deng anyways...and it'll just open up cap room to re-sign some of our own guys (Lopez, KCP, IT2) to 1-year deals and we try for 2019. The worst case here is we lose Randle, and then PG & LeBron don't come either. And trust me, that is a lot more possible than you would think. Lakers need to be SMART here and make the necessary moves to get all 3 guys but also not LOSE all 3 guys. That starts and ends with DENG. Get him out of here.
We had 10 more wins this year despite most of the kids missing a ton of games. Didn’t say you’re wrong this time so I don’t expect you to change. And you’re essentially building a pre-existing excuse if Lebron and/or PG come in that you won’t have to give Randle any credit for team improvement. Congrats.
I'm building a "don't tell me what someone should get paid" excuse. I have seen WAY too many players around the league get money they have NO business getting and they have killed any chance for their teams of ever competing for titles. This is about flexibility and paying the right players. Did you guys forget what happen 2 years ago when that idiot and Mitch signed Mosgov and Deng? All in the name of "We need to sign someone, no one will sign with us." The moral of the story is don't overpay. There is a cap. Be careful not to overvalue. Stop being mesmerized by stats. Stop being desperate. The new regime seems to be going towards more of the way I am thinking. They rid themselves of Mosgov's contract, they got rid of Clarkson's contract. They signed players to one year deals or picked up players who had one year left in their contracts. They did not offer Julius an extension last year, hence, why he played harder than usual this year. He had to play up to getting his next contract. This all being set up so they can get elite stars here. That's what made the Lakers the Lakers.
But doesn't that period of 2-3 days start after July 5th or something once the moratorium ends. So technically if we says its 3 days to decide on the offer sheet the the moratorium ends on July 5th we'd hope PG & LBJ decide by July 8th. Granted this is if Randle signs an offer sheet with a team like I believe he will.
The moratorium will start on the 1st and end on the 6th. LeBron typically takes until the 10-12 area to make his decision. George may be quicker. But for the sake of conversation let's say Randle signs on the 6th at 12 AM and we haven't heard a yes or no from George and LeBron by the 9th.
Fyi: It doesn't matter if Jules signs an offer sheet on June 30th at 9:01pm or July 6th at 8:59am... Our 48 hour window to match begins on July 6th at 9am and concludes on July 8th at 9am if Jules signs anytime during the moratorium. If he doesn't sign an offer sheet during the moratorium period, then it's 48 hrs from the point we recieve an opposing team's offer sheet. Also the deadline to rescind Jules's QO without his consent, hence making him a UFA, is July 13th. We can still renounce Jules after July 13th, but with his consent, and that would make him a UFA. If he doesnt consent, then he becomes an expiring 5.6M contract for the 2018/19 season and becomes a UFA next summer. So in that regard, it might actually help that he does sign an an opposing team's offer sheet quickly, cause then we can approach Bron/PG with the concept of them wanting to play with Jules or not. If not, then we match and trade (however we can't trade to the team that made the offer) or we don't match (which I think is not ideal cause we would be letting an asset walk away for nothing). Obviously the best case scenario is if Jules waits out the process of us locking up Bron/PG, before we take care of him. Also...
