I don’t see any way in hell Melo considers retiring, especially if he won’t even consider a bench role yet. I think he opts in for sure, maybe does ask for a buy out or trade later, but for sure wants that guaranteed money. If anything I think he plays it out this last season and then goes ring chasing with a buddy Chris Paul after that. Maybe he takes cheap money in Houston to do that.

Absolutely. I wouldn't walk away from $28MM... I don't care if I've made a ton of money over my career. That's freakin' $28MM dollars!!!

Well he did hint at retiring at the end of his exit interview.

A lot of players, especially ones that are as proudful as Melo, would rather retire gracefully at the top of their game than accepting a bench role or playing overseas. I could definitely see him opting in, negotiating a buy-out, and retiring shortly after.

I think at this point, it won't matter whether or not we'd like to have PG donning P&G because it's set in stone. It's only a matter of when it will be announced.

Let's move on and discuss the remaining parts of our summer plans. Randle, Lopez, other free agents and all and the 50W goal next season.

Oh I am 100% with you. The Lakers are going to put together one hell of a pitch this summer. I can't imagine leaving a room with Magic's charisma and Rob's intelligence (and religious/pop culture anecdotes) and not be wildly impressed. I have a feeling we'll recruit all of our stars who are still around to come to the meeting.

One thing I like is that the Lakers have sort of hinted that they'll approach every FA differently. i think with Paul a legacy meeting is going to work wonders. With LeBron, I think a legacy meeting would be alright, but a more comprehensive meeting including business opps would be better. A family style meeting would work better for Lopez. These are things we talked about a lot over the last couple years, but Mitch and Jim apparently have such poor people skills they really didn't get it.

If I were Carmelo, I'd go to a great team and accept a bench role. He's a borderline Hall of Famer, but he doesn't have a ring. What good are all those scoring numbers if he's not going to have the ultimate success? Does he want to be Alex English?

But knowing Carmelo, he'd rather take the money. I hope he takes the money. That's better for us by a long shot.

I can actually see Melo leaving all that money on the table to give ring chase in Houston if they win it all.

    As for PG...
Do you stay on a team with a ball hogging volcano ready to blow, where the team has a history of giving up contending in favor of saving money? Or to a team on the up and up who has a long history of winning?

If I were Melo, I'd opt-in and take the $ because I'm a big fan of getting nearly 28 million dollars, regardless of how rich I already am. Let's face it, players like $ - no matter how much they talk about the importance of championships. Melo is turning 34 next month. He still has several years to try and win a title - albeit in a diminished role. This is realistically his last year to get paid like a superstar.

I play out the season with the Thunder and then sign with a great team as a bench player in 2019, when presumably another mediocre season will have successfully convinced me I am no longer this amazing player who is above being a reserve and I can go sign with Philly or Boston or Golden State or Houston or whomever I can Mitch Richmond my way to a title. OR the Thunder are so sick of my mediocre play / whining about role, that they trade me to a contender before the deadline or offer to buy me out and I can just sign with a contender mid-season.

In the end, no way would I give up 28 million dollars.

Toronto defensively will have limited options on who guards LeBron. They have...
    - OG Anunoby who has the most size at SF (6’8”, 235lbs) but he’s a rookie and guarding LeBron all series will be a big task for him. OG will be likely the one who gets most time guarding LeBron.

    - Demar Derozen who’s 6’7” and 220lbs, Lebrons got almost 40 lbs on DeRozen and the downside to this is I could see Demar’s energy being drained if he has to guard LeBron for prolonged periods of time.

    - CJ Miles, who is a bit undersized at 6’5 220lbs to guard LeBron. He was never a good defender to begin with.

The only blessing is that Indiana took Cleveland to 7 games with Bojan Bogdanovic and Lance Stephenson guarding LBJ. All thr is players mentioned above are still a upgrade defensively.

i really think he's going to opt in, agree to a buy-out, then take minimum or vet's exception to play in houston. this would be especially likely if houston doesn't win the title (but they're going to win it--ick).

eh, i'll be interested to see his decision and rationale when it's all done. if he's not very confident in himself, staying is the right option. based on his play over the past few months, that might be sensible, too. i still think the conference finals paul george resides in there somewhere, and that paul george should join the lakers. or actually, the sixers. again, ick.

Stay in OKC and watch Westbrook shoot 43 times or go the Lakers and have Ball pass to you 43 times.

    Tough one.

You’d have to use a different site than where you are currently getting your pictures. They only offer it in that format currently

So basically as long as you pull pictures from the site in question, iPhone users will be unable to see them

I’m just giving you a hard time about being a team player, but since I read the site quite a bit on my iPhone, I don’t get to enjoy your picture genius as often as I should either

it's funny--the tone and premise of the article is unmistakable (george is gone), but it's not at all supported by the quotes included. so, either he thinks he knows something, or he's just guessing. whatever it is, he's not just connecting factual dots, imo.
