All this talk out there in social media about PG not being good or not a good fit for us is total BS. I thought @Weezy brought up a good point, westbrook holding the ball and wanting to do it all has an effect on those he plays with at times and I think not only this series but this season we saw it have an effect on PG.
Genuinely though. This weird "Paul George isn't that great" narrative is incredibly misplaced. Not only is he very much worth a max contract (Elite player in his prime), but who the flying f*** are we, with our 30 some odd wins, to turn our backs on a player of his caliber if he wanted in? I can't wait for Paul to be a Laker. It's going to be a good day. This Utah series was some of the ugliest basketball I've ever seen. OKC thought they were creating a monster in Westbrook and instead they've created a petulant child. I never thought I'd dislike seeing Westbrook play, but I'm through with that guy. He has no idea how to win in the Playoffs and is too immature to do anything besides be selfish. If I were George, I'd already have my bags packed.
43 shot attempts vs 16. Now 16 is enough to get a good rhythm going, but you relegated this dude to a spot up shooter and that isn't his game. Last game, OKC used a crazy run to erase a 25 pt deficit, but look at how they did it. Gobert was out with foul trouble. Melo was out so there's one less mouth to feed on offense. Russ and George went back and forth between each other with iso ball. That's not a sustainable offense...especially in the postseason. And consider this... Btw: that was a foul on George, but the Jazz got away with a few over the back fouls in getting 5 chances at tying the game right there at the end.
All of this, yes. I also pointed out in the NBA section that Oladipo got to see this firsthand last playoffs, while he took 12 shots per game and Westbrook took 30. Literally, 30.4 fga per game in their first round series. He toned it wayyy down this year, he and PG were only separated by about 3 shot attempts per game, but not THIS game. Also, maybe off topic, but geez ESPN, nothing against Royce at all, but you could at least try and get more objective team reporters.
A lot is going to be said about PG's post game comments tonight and in the near future this summer. In the end this needs to be sticky'd to the top of this thread because it's THE TRUTH and should bring us comfort:
I think you meant to type “Thunder” got away with the over the back calls, and damn did they ever. That one play that gave OKC the ball back where the ball went off Mitchell and they initially called a jump ball, Mitchell was grabbed by the shoulder and held trying grab the ball, so of course he lost it. OKC had shot after shot after shot at it and they clanked every one. What undid them was Mitchell’s insane 3rd quarter performance, I don’t see how he’s not ROY, regardless of what Ben Simmons is doing.
If I could like this twice, I would. I was rooting hard for Westbrook to average a triple double last season and get MVP, it was a great show. UCLA is my team, he was really good there, I became a fan. He’s a lot like Kobe, plays all out, there’s that too. But he was pretty much alone last season, not so much this season, you can’t play all out wreckless like that with this version of the team. I know he gets hot and is amazing at times, and PG was ice cold so he keeps shooting, but it’s not working this way after this many years still, he seems unable to “play well others”, and I don’t mean it in the basketball sense, I mean it more like the note sent home from elementary school sense. Also, this, another tweet that made me kinda shrug and go, “hmm, yeah, probably”.
You're absolutely right bro! Royce is such a tool. I prefer Fred Katz, the other guy covering the Okc beat. He's super objective and not a homer like Royce. Dude's already taking shots at PG....he has to know he's gone hahaha. Btw, thx for pointing out my typo..I meant to say OKC got away with a s*** load of over the back fouls on that final scramble possession.
3 "stars" and a MVP couldn't take out a rookie. Rubio went out with an injury and Okc still couldn't force a game 7. Meanwhile Oladipo is balling against the Kang of the East and getting way more shine than he ever did in Russ's shadow. KD won a ring and is happy where he's at... Went so far as to create a burner account to s*** on Donovan and the OKC franchise. Harden is happy where he's at, and is getting paid by a franchise that didn't nickel and dime him. Bruh, you know what to do!
1) It's kind of mind blowing how bad George can play sometimes 2) He overrates his ball handling skills quite a bit 3) Welcome to LA
For how bad the refs have been this year...on 2nd review, I actually gotta double back and agree with them on the non-call.
^^^ Like I said, twice to finish the game George played for the foul on the 3 point shot instead of playing for the shot. The first time he got it, but they didn’t give him 3 shots, it was ball out of bounds, as they have been doing a lot all this season with new “continuation” judgement calls. The 2nd time, you learn, and you realize the refs aren’t gonna call a foul on a 3 to decide the game, and you don’t try that. If your name is James Harden you try that, but not Paul George, IN Utah, with 20 seconds left in the game. You attack the hoop, or try to get the open shot again.
Westbrook or not, you don't call yourself Playoff P and play like s*** in the elimination game. Someone call Doc Brown and tell him to work on bringing Kobe back...
