Why is Lonzo being criticized for Magic/Rob deciding that they’d rather have him working in the gym than playing Summer League?

I know this is crazy, but there's hoops to practice on in Lithuania.

the kinds of things one learns in summer league are not things lonzo needs to learn, imo. he needs an insane amount of shot reps and a LOT of work on his body (not pullups in the backyard).

He needs to be in the gym a lot, working on his shot and his body. He also needs time off to rest the body. He's young but the body doesn't like having the same spots take punishment for 12 months.

Absolutely dead on! The apex of his shot is so important and that's all feet work. Magic said as much in that Zo looks to be off balance on alot of his deep balls. At the free throw line he rushes the and it almost looks like he's leaning towards one side. These are his first few throws in the league...

They're just so off balance. Pair his tired legs with his MCL sprain and he does tend to muscle his shots up and that's why they come off so hard off the rim.

These kids today love the long ball and whether it's half court or 3 point / horse-type contests in practice, that's how they have grown up. It's the Steph Curry effect, but Steph is a dead eye shooter and got that down before he started his pregame trick shot routine. Not to mention, dude is surgical in how to add enough English on the ball placement off the backboard for his layup attempts at the rim. Zo took more 3s (294) than 2s/layups (270) this season and that is just a mentality that needs to change... There's more to offense than just the long ball.

Pair that with Lavar encouraging his boys to do those weak a** pull-ups in the drive way and they're really ignoring leg days. Focusing on his core and getting his legs stronger will allow him to be more durable next season as well as gain more balance/strength in his shot.

Growing pains...But dammit, it's gotta hurt you more than it hurts us. I can't watch another piss poor shooting performance next season. Dude better put in the work this summer!

I agree with them, I'd trade 2 of those 4 for an MVP caliber player - but they can't have Ingram and Kuzma.

I am more interested in who he's going to work with in the summer ( read NBA "specialists" ) than anything else

500 3's a day. 1000 free throws. 2-3 hour session with Nash. 5 days a week for at least a month.

You do realize these guys have a life outside of basketball.... Not everyone is dedicated like Kobe Bryant. I wish it was like @alam1108 says though....

I have been watching season 2 of Ball in the Family this weekend and noticed that Lonzo pretty much eats whatever he wants (I.e. porkchops, pizza, candy, etc)

I know he’s a twig and is in the same boat as Brandon Ingram, where they both could gain 15lbs, but as a professional athlete shouldn’t he be eating healthier?

All you have to do is look at the skin on his face and you can see the slop that j****** eats. Junk makes your bones and skin and muscles weaker. Unless you are one of those guys who can handle it, you are ok. But most people can't. And it shows in his recovery.

Don't we have a team nutritionist? He shouldn't probably get on that.
