One of the things Magic said he was disappointed in with the entire team was those free throws. Not just Zo but everyone has gotta work on them he said.
Good breakdown, and really indefensible. But I would be interested in seeing how those numbers changed after the all star break.
@TIME @LTLakerFan You guys are the worst, but since y'all asked nicely and I like you guys, when comparing Zo to other 30+ min players, December was Zo's best shooting month of the season (42.2% FG and 37.7% 3FG). He ranked 274th out of a possible 420 in terms of FG% and 130th in 3FG%. He shot his best FT% of 55.6% in October. That ranked him in at 279th out of 332. After All-star, Zo shot 37% and was ranked 407th out of 469 for 3rd worst in FG% beating out only Gallinari and LaVine. He shot 31% which ranked him at 274th out of 382. He shot 38.1% from FT which was dead last in the league. Now who coached him to shoot like that? Lavar needs to have a talk with that man.
The free throw shooting is inexcusable. I don't mind the FG% or the 3pt %...historically rookies struggle to shoot the ball in their first year. But the free throws? 45%? Are you kidding me? That's worse than Mudiay and very worrisome for the future. If he doesn't fix his shot this summer or improve....
If you were to start a franchise and had to pick between having either Lonzo or Ben Simmons as your point guard for the next 10 years, who do ya’ll take?
Is that a serious question? I like Lonzo...but Simmons is going to be a top 5 NBA player when he hits his prime.
Simmons. You can't teach size. I still like Zo. With players like BI, Kuz, Randle, etc, he doesn't need to be like Simmons.
id argue Simmons is a much better pg than Zo, they both setup teammates really well but Simmons is even better in that he drives n kicks, something Zo does very little off. While both are poor shooters, it feels like that doesnt deter Simmons from scoring efficiently unlike Zo when his shot is off
it's a Magic vs. Kidd comparison...you always choose Magic but we will have to make do with Kidd...we really needed to get the no. 1 pick in two consecutive drafts before Lonzo. We ended with pick no.2, chose terribly in '15, got the best available in '16
IF Zo ends up having a healthy career then I agree with you. I only lean toward Simmons because of his body type and likely long term durability.
