Was a little surprised to hear about Steve Clifford being fired. He was feeling a lot better and Mitch from all accounts respected him and liked the job he did when he was with the Lakers under Mike D. I guess Mitch just wants a clean slate. Would not surprise me in the future to see Kemba traded. They are in CAP hell
I just thought he would be given one more year. If things didn't work out during next year than let him go than. Although this gives the new Head Coach a training camp to get his new stuff in which definitely helps.
hence firing the gm, imo. not clifford's fault they paid batum and zeller like crazy. who? lamb? they've got squat, and it's not because of a lack of development. again, poor talent acquisition.
We don't know how much input Clifford gave the front office. If he insisted on acquiring Batum and Zeller "at any cost", then it makes sense for MJ and Kupchak to hold him partially responsible.
Kind of ironic for Mitch to be firing someone for bad decisions on acquisitions though.... but that being said, it's not uncommon for a new regime to go another direction, and that often includes the coach- fair or not.
It makes sense that a new GM can bring in his own coach, so I'm not surprised at all. Especially given their underachievement this year.
I am 1 in 0 for watching playoff games in which the Spurs win. This season was not what was hoping for but this was nice.
