I think it's just how Zo has been: streaky. I think he's a bit shaken after teams decided to change how they played defense on him with the gap coverage (LakerFilmRoom has a great video on his recent struggles). He also looks afraid of contact when driving to the rim. As Kobe says:
Yeah, he shot like sh**, but his floor game his very good. His defense has surprised this year, too. That shot has to be fixed; and his whole in between game that Steve Nash mastered. He will be fine, but it's extremely frustrating tonight losing a game where if he hit 2 more shots, we probably could have won. I'm still high on him, though. He'll be fine.
^BI had his growing pains his rookie year, but made drastic improvements this year. I'm hoping Zo does the same.
Awful shooting again. Wtf. Like, they’re not even close. Clanking off the rim and no rhythm. Not sure if you’re trying to find your Kobe airball moment or just plain sucking, fix your shot boy.
Ah the highs and lows of Lakers fandom. Go back 12 pages in this very thread and Zo was the greatest thing ever. Now we’d trade him for what we can get. The shooting needs to be fixed, he needs to add a floater and attack the hoop to score more, but he’s a rookie, ups and downs are expected (people forget Ingram’s rookie year already?). The boarding, the defense, the playmaking, they’re all there, all he’s got to do is fix the shooting. Hard for me to say we missed on this in any scenario, he was still the right pick for me at 2, unless we had a crystal ball or a time machine and could go back and get Donovan Mitchell. It’s hard to see guys like that ahead of time though. We could have taken Fultz too.
This s*** while he's absolutely sucking worst of the season again with his shot ought to be embarrassing being out there but of course not for him. He "knows" he can shoot and will continue to do so. Quote ... unquote. Why spend extra hours on it with the entertainer part of Zo the rapper needs work too?
Not you too, LT. Zo is 20, him making a silly video now and then doesn’t mean he doesn’t work on his game. If these are the sort of things that are going to bother us as fans now we are in trouble, because this is reality now with people this age. Damn the hate is getting strong.
weird thing to me...seems like zo is better when he has to step back on his 3, maybe that gives him better rythm?
You guys are right I know .... tonight got to me. Sloppy turnovers too plus having to watch IT be in the game too long in 4th instead of Lopez. Sigh.
Lonzo did a lot of things right tonight. Obviously shooting wasn't one of them. Still I'll take the rest of it - 13 boards, 9 assists and 2 blocks.
Why are we allowing him to chuck 3s costing us games? We need to address his shooting in the offseason. It's not going to magically get fixed late in the 4th quarter when he was already 1-10. If we are going to hide IT on defense we need to hide Lonzo on offense too. (for the time being) We're setting him up for failure. That's what pisses me off.
IT was in there far to long in the 4th quarter; guys in GD were screaming for Lopez; that's on Luke. If Lopez returns sooner, the result could have been different, too.
And the old man hasn't even been in the news running his mouth to exacerbate things. Can't wait to hear from him again.
I didn't think his shot selection was that bad until the very last one he took with 14 seconds on the clock (he should have found someone else rather than trying to shoot over Davis because he still had time to do so). It's growing pains. I don't think it is what cost us this game. We didn't get stops. We had a double digit lead going into the fourth and it's not like he was playing hero ball like IT. He was taking open shots. He didn't hit them. But in the future he will.
I was listening to the NOLA radio broadcast on SiriusXM & they were clowning Lonzo hard... Begging him to keep shooting threes.
