^I doubt Smith even believes the lucidity of his own ramblings.

What's hilarious is that Mason and Ireland are always complaining that he's on. THey want it to go back to 3 hours o Thompson and Trudell.

#PickWatch: it now sits as the 22nd overall pick and is one Cavs loss away from climbing to 18.

It's a 3 game losing streak away from being the 15th pick in the draft.

Honestly at that point, it might make a great trading piece for moving Deng. I'd love to keep it and give this FO a shot at another young, talented kid, but salary would also come into play and might cut into our max slots.

Still, how incredible is that our pick going to Philly might be nearly the same as the pick we are getting from Cleveland?

Too bad, as anonymous reports speculate .... that Rob has to do this at the highest organizational levels all on his own. Would have been great if Magic wasn't just a figurehead and actually knew something about the game in his 1st time ever position of NBA team president.

If Kuz can't go with that sprained ankle, will we finally see Deng('s corpse)?

I would think we’ll just play Williams. If we chose to play Wear down double digits IN San Antonio, Deng will never see a Lakers court in a Lakers uniform again.

PickWatch: At one point this pick was as low as 27th, but after the Cavs loss tonight to the Blazers, its now at 21...and one loss away from being 17. They have 2 remaining back to backs and literally every game they play till the end of the season has only one day in between each of them.

They face Milwaukee and Toronto next week. Miami and Charlotte in a back to back the week after and the Pels right after that which will makes it 3 games in 4 nights. And in the 1st week of April they face Toronto, Washington and Philly in another 4 day stretch (with Washington and Philly in a back to back). The Cavs final 2 games will be against New York and his buddy Kanter.

I don't want to give up Hart period. Or the pick(s). We gave up a killer player with a super friendly contract already this year in Nance. That's it. No more poaching of our youth.

But I also don't think we get any takers for Deng without Hart and very likely Zu and Thomas and all our picks. Not worth it. We can still pull off the 2 FAs. So screw it, stretch Deng. Throw him on the rack and stretch his ***.

12 mil for the 2018-2019 covers the stretch on Deng and all 3 of Hart, Zu and Thomas' salaries (assuming we would lose all 3 + all our picks to dump Deng). Add to that whatever cash value keeping our picks for the future adds up to. 12 mil almost sounds like a deal.

For 2019-2020, 10.5 million covers the Deng stretch and Hart & Thomas' salaries. Add to that whatever we resign Zu for, if we do at all.

We are talking about keeping Hart, Thaomas and Zu next year for 12 mil while opening up 5 more million cap for our FA purposes which gives us very close to 2 super-size FA Max deals (or 1 super star and Jules and someone else?) and if we do need a couple more million to fully close that gap we have team options on either Zu or Thomas. Done deal.
Say we keep them, for the 2019-2020 season, the stretch + Hart & Thomas comes to 10.5 the following season. Add to that whatever we pay Zu (if at all). Hart alone may be worth all this money anyways and the other 2, who knows, but bigs are nice to have and easy to trade. Plus we have our picks and may even get a good servicable player out of them or better.

Yeah we get stuck with Deng's 7.4 mil for another 3 seasons beyond that but you have all your major players signed and bird rights to resign. Use our room exceptions, do well, attract some good players on vet mins.

The main point is this, we'll have Hart on a cheap contract for 3 more seasons. Dumping Deng isn't worth the losses when we can get our goal without losing further valuable assets.

The only way to get to two max slots without dumping Deng is if George opts in and takes an extension. His 20.7 million with Julius's cap hold, Deng's 7.4 million per year for 5 years, and all the kids would still leave you roughly 39 million to spend. If we used the Cleveland pick instead of trading it, we'd be looking at almost exactly the 35.4 million we'd need to sign a second max.

If there's no trade we can pull off with Oklahoma though, some sacrifices will have to be made. It's always a tough call and I love Josh Hart, but I'm not going to pick Josh Hart over LeBron/George. I just won't.

It'd definitely get tough to trade that pick if it moves up into the teens.

Then again, for salary reasons I might be more inclined to move it. Not to mention, a pick in the teens certainly makes it easier to trade Deng. Personally, I'd have my eyes on Gary Trent Jr. or Gafford. I like those two. I know Gafford doesn't really fit with our system too well, but that size and athleticism is pretty damn impressive and I love me a big man prospect.

    MozDeng reunited?

Bobby Marks used to work for the Nets so in his recent ESPN Insider article on "fixing" the Nets, he wrote this little tasty nugget:

How hilarious would that be? We have the Cavs pick for 2018 and our pick for 2019. Due to the Stepien rule you can't trade draft picks in successive years, so Cavs 2018 and our 2020 pick works or our 2019 and our 2021 pick work.

Cavs pick works best as trade bait so we don't have to include it as guaranteed salary.
