I feel as though he got handed an awful situation in Denver. Do it Mitch! We can use another assistant

Bring him home for something, anything. We are a Lakers family right?

I see him either coming home here or going to NY to help with Phil and the Knicks.

I can't believe how mistreated he was though. He seemed like such a smart dude, maybe he just doesn't have that authority a HC needs. He could be Byron's Xs and Os if he wants to... Lord knows Byron could use the help.

Hmmm...he'll end up in New York. If you want to go the assistant route, hire Mike Malone.

It seemed like he had more authority and respect as Indy's assistant head coach, which is sad and speaks of the maturity level of the players and class of the organization. Bird would never allow his players to behave in that manner.

Who gets on the phone first? Mitch and Kobe or Phil and Fish? Which gig would be more appealing to him, I wonder.

sucks for shaw. he's a much better coach than the nuggets record the last few seasons indicates

i'd love for him to come back to LA but with the way he was mistreated, i highly doubt he'd be willing to come back. i'm almost certain he'll end up in NY. unfortunately i doubt he'll ever get another crack at a HC position. with the way teams were unwilling to ever hire him in the first place and with what happened in denver, doesn't look like he'll be getting a look anytime soon. shame

I think NY is more his vibe with Phil there, but uh... who wants to jump in that dumpster? NY is already starting to turn on Phil. How long does that all last before they give up on him already?

^ that's the thing though, at this point Phil has to be almost political to save his own rear. I'm not sure bringing in even more of his guys would appease New Yorkers. It'd probably further irritate them. It is Phil though, not the most conventional man, he might say F it and go all in.

Phil definitely seems like the "F it" kind of guy... I don't know. It's a good question. I could see him going either way. Hell maybe he just takes some time off coaching after such an AWFUL fit in Denver.

Read MDA is an early candidate in Denver. Pardon me while I vomit. The man does not belong in the NBA, period. Not exactly someone that commands respect. Unless management was willing to actually give him a roster he wants (something they wouldn't do for Shaw), I don't see it working.

Shaw could end up in New York...though I am not sure if he can deal with a step down as an assistant.

that'll probably be the only choice he'll have for a very long time

highly doubt he gets another NBA head coaching offer in the near future

Hate to see a GREAT guy like B. Shaw get treated this way. Once upon a time I was rooting for him to get the HC job here after Phil. Seems like a lifetime ago now. I believe in Brian and think he will be a good HC if he gets a roster that will work for him and an organization that respects him and his abilities. He's persevered through the face of incredibly brutal adversity personally, and he's an inspiring person. We could have done a lot worse than Brian Shaw and we did. I would have greatly preferred him as HC over knuckleheads like Mike Brown and MDA.

Players either like Shaw or don't like the thumb sucking kids on the Nuggets. First David West, which made sense since Shaw was assistant HC over there. Now KG.

I hate to be the voice of dissent on this, and I am NOT advocating for the Denver players as they acted like children and should be ashamed of themselves, but as it pertains to Shaw's actual coaching abilities, is he good? None of Phil's disciples other than Kerr (if you can even call Kerr a disciple as he runs a VERY different offense AND chose not to follow Phil), have had success. The thing that made Phil a great coach was his psychological manipulations. He had the ability to tweak at the right times. No one believes Phil is a fantastic Xs and Os guy. He was good but not great. He excelled at the psychology portion. And that type of thing isn't something that can be taught. That's a natural talent. Shaw, Fisher, Rambis...these guys are failing or have failed miserably.

What made Phil one of, if not the greatest coach of all time was unique to Phil. There is zero reason to believe Shaw can lead men in the way Phil did because you can't learn what made Phil special. He may be an excellent assistant, but as the leader, is there any reason to believe he has what it takes?

It's that damn triangle; it strikes again!. Honestly, I do feel or Brian and I wish him all the best. However, the coaching tree isn't great.
