I liked your post. I see the wheelchair. We're mocking him ... right?

And they decided to do the ceremony after the game. Sure some people decided to leave because of the blowout.

And Kevin Love is out on injury, and the Cavs freed up roster spots for buyouts. Great moves by the team to position for another finals loss

Let's hope that Ball won't try to change his shooting mechanics LOL.

This is a wonderful piece of journalism. I read this yesterday.

After talking to my wife, we're convinced the kid hurt himself at some point and the Sixers staff was too incompetent to find it. They gave the kid too much autonomy in his healing process and in the process of him trying to "work through" an injury he has damaged himself mentally. Let's say you tore something in your knee. You could conceivably continue to operate on that knee by avoiding painful motions, but the underlying problem would still exist. You would have to teach yourself how to move and operate without irritating yourself. That would take time and you'd have to change basically everything about your approach to walking, running, jumping, etc.

This, in my opinion, is probably similar. He probably had some sort of damage that he really needed to stop and let heal, but the Sixers allowed him to continue to work and function and through that process he has completely lost himself. Now, even if he's healed physically (I don't know that he is), he's "unlearned" a lot of what made him successful. Keep in mind, he was relatively fresh on the scene at UW as a freshman and took the world by storm. He had made adjusts to his game then that likely had caused some internal problems, but were working for him. It's not like he was always shooting this way and always had this level of success or he'd have been recruited to bigger schools more heavily. It's possible that the progress he made to be the type of shooter he was was unsustainable with the rigors he was putting on his body.

It's also possible that he recovers and works it all out and everything is fine. It might just take time, but what an odd and fascinating tale for the young man.

I can't imagine how frustrating this must be for the Sixers who look like they're so close to competing. That training staff has to be one of the worst in the business though and they need to rethink their structure on the "freedom" they give to their players in terms of their health and recovery processes.

yeah, that is a good piece. totally bizarre stuff. if it's between the ears, that doesn't make it easier to overcome. it may be harder, actually. still never seen a case of the yips like this in basketball. maybe nick anderson?

Longest read in the history of sports reads. Dayam!!!

Never did finally finish it and I spent some serious time.

My money is on the personal trainer jerking with his shot after summer league. Got him all effed up in the head. Eichmann's razor or something like that.

Sooo .... Cleveland ... with 2 of our favorite young Lakers now on their squad in OKC tonight. Go Cavaliers ....even LeBron .... right? Numerous reasons .... right? They can suck for however many games after that for our pick's placement.

Although something tells me all these new guys are just what the Kang needed to get his head back into this season. I think they will be a better team going forward.

True Weezy, they did break this kid, although Fultz's trainer expresses surprise below, as his methods have previously guranteed success.

This is like a nightmare, he is literally back to a fifth grade level of shooting at the moment.

Can't he just start shooting like he used to? My god not rocket science here. Did he forget every single thing from before?

mental block. there have been weirder cases, just not that many with pro athletes. things can snowball really fast when you start to doubt fundamental things like physical movements. it's hard to go from attending to not attending (this what practice is supposed to do), then have attention pop back in in a major way, then try to go back to auto-pilot. as a psychologist, i'm really curious as to how they handle this--and i don't believe the shoulder is an issue at this point. it may never have been, or it may have been for just a short period, and it was enough to totally f*** the mental aspect.
