really curious to see how houston handles capela's FA. someone will come to him with a bunch of cash, maybe even max level. then we'll get to see some interesting stuff. houston balked at chandler parsons' RFA deal, and i wonder if they'd do the same at capela because they think the same as me (replaceable). if they match, that might mean something. if they don't, we'll get to see if he can replicate his success in a non-dantoni system.

    to bring the thread back:

after george re-ups in okc, the lakers may choose to throw money at capela.

I would not mind Capela but nowhere near max money.

So playing on our hardwood for both Sat and Sun during allstar weekend. Damn PG, you'll get plenty of Staples next year brodie. Didn't know you was this thirsty. Better watch yourself before they hit us with another tampering case.

I think he'll also be inside the arena for the Rising Star as he cheers for LAL's Baby3!

This is 3 weeks old, but here's why Paul staying in OKC doesn't make sense when you got Clay Bennett as an owner. They supposedly passed on OKC's home grown Blake Griffin and with that deal, they don't have to worry about PG leaving for nothing, cause they got a previous all-star locked up on a 5 year deal....the same type of money that they are projected to give to George (if he seeks the true max). So why pass? Unless you're a cheap a** owner like Clay Bennett....and boy does his frugality have no bounds.

isn't is possible that they simply didn't want to pay griffin that money? but that they would pay george that money?

do people really think the george and melo trades were simply to trick westbrook into signing long term? that seems unlikely.

i think they fully plan to pay george and hope to convince melo to opt out and come back at a discounted rate (or use this a ruse to send him away).

300M in combined team salary and luxury penalty tax is what Clay is looking at in keeping those 3 in OKC. You're asking one of the most frugal owners in sports (and his track record says as such), to go all in on a roster that is not even favored to win it all.

Intriguing since OKC's current lineup badly needs a true 4! You can remove PG and Melo would gladly slide back to playing 3.

And then lose whatever defense they have left? They need someone they can throw at Harden and Durant if they want to make it far.

How dare you disrespect Melo's underrated defense.

EDIT: Speaking of. PG may finally get his first DPOY with Green playing lost and Kahwi injured and him somehow going back to his old ways in that end of the floor.

Not particularly singling you out, but what defense do you speak of? The one that is giving up 72 points to the Nugs in the 1st half of tonight's game? Or the defense that has been rated dead last in points given up since Dec. 20th?

Adams would have killed himself trying to cover for Melo and Griffin.

They actually went to PG tonight. But came up short. I hope they get beaten badly tomorrow and hand us PG before we play them.

It was actually a win-win game for us rooting for George to be great and for OKC to fail. George got to take and make a clutch 3 to tie the game at 124, and then the Thunder still lost on a buzzer beater next possession. Thunder gave up 127 points to the Nuggets. Yeah, they’re gonna beat the Warriors...

No idea how some could read OKC rejecting Blake Griffin as a cheap move on their behalf. You really need some purple and gold glasses to believe that.

Blake is injured half the year and bows out of the playoffs almost every season with some ailment or other. Why on earth would anyone trade PG, who aside from one horrific unfortunate accident is pretty much on the floor 90% of the time and gives you great defence for that?

Does anyone really think that OKC aren’t going to offer George the max? If they don’t, guarantee Westbrook asks for a trade shortly afterwards and no FA ever considers them as a destination intent on winning ever again. Hell or high water George is getting his max offer - the ball is in his court and from the looks of things he is really enjoying playing with Westbrook.

Chances are they have Melo, Westbrook and George locked in for another year - can’t see Melo opting out - and all the tax that comes with those 3, Adams and Roberson.

    1. It's not rose tinted to rationally look at the spending history of this team and observe that Blake's pricetag had a lot to do with their hesitance to pull the trigger.

    2. I agree George is likely to get a max offer no matter what.

    3. The above will mean that at some point the Thunder will sell off Adams and Roberson and anyone else to avoid paying taxes. I too doubt that Melo opts out so they'll need to get creative but I believe they can. They'll attach picks to move pieces.

Chances are...you're wearing a Westbrook designed parka thinking the Thunder will willingly make 300M rain over a roster that gets man-handled by the Dubs in the playoffs.

Clay Bennett made Presti trade away Harden months after Russ, KD and the beard went to the Finals. They traded away Serge, traded away Perkins, traded away Reggie...why? Cause they were due big money. Seems like a whole lot of committed money to Oladipo was dumped in trading for George too.

The only players their small market wants to retain are MVPs. That's why they wanted to retain Durant and that is why they did everything they could to lock up Russ...and it worked.

Why trade for an injury riddled Blake? Uh, why trade for Melo then? Dude's no ironman as of late.

GTFOH with Clay wanting to fork over that type of cash, cause he never has and since PG ain't no MVP, "Chances are" he never will.

There is rational and then there is Lakers bias, ie: saying the thunder are cheap for not trading for Blake Griffin.

The Thunder being cheap is mostly centered around trading Harden. What is conveniently left out is that they offered harden a 55m contract extension (just under his max), that would of put them deep into luxury tax back then. They were willing to keep Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka and Harden. At the time no one foresaw that Ibaka and Harden were out and out max worthy players.

Losing Harden is mostly frowned upon because he became a MVP caliber player. Hard to foresee that kind of growth from 6th man to MVP. It’s like Kuzma getting traded and becoming a top 5 player in the league. You can’t pick that.

I don’t see them jettisoning Adams. Maybe Roberson but that’s more his fault than anything else - he hasn’t developed any semblance of offence and I suppose they trade for a player this trade deadline they’ll stick with and move on to developing Ferguson in his position. (If he isn’t part of trade package).

I think OKC is all in to win one with Westbrook over the next 3 years. If nothing works, they’ll rebuild then.

I don’t know you personally or much of your posting history, but from what I see in every thread you comment in; you’re one of those full on lakers homers who only sees what they want too. That’s okay, you do you, like always the Lakers will come back to the top and win a championship eventually and we’ll celebrate together.

But currently, it’s all a bunch of revionist history you’re spewing out with some cute gifs.

Bennett didn’t make anyone trade anything. In fact an extension was offered to Harden. One that at the time seemed fair. It was a similar situation to what the warriors were going through a few years before. It’s like if Klay left before he resigned a eith GSW years back and became an MVP at his own team. It’s a little like our situation, if we offer Randle an extension below max by a little, he says no and we sign and trade him elsewhere. I don’t think anyone could of or can foresee him becoming an MVP.

They traded Perkins because he was useless. They traded Ibaka because he clearly wasn’t the player to invest money into and was beginnng to fall apart. They traded Reggie because by all accounts he was extremely selfish and didn’t fit into the team culture that Westbrook and Durant built together. For someone who complains about our last FO signing moz and deng all the time, I find it odd that you are using that as an arguement for OKC being cheap - makes good sense to me not to throw money on average players.

You really going to say that Oladipo shouldn’t of been traded for Paul George? LOL, that was a no brainer at the time.

And your point on why they traded for Melo, when he isn’t an Ironman, makes no sense at all. They traded Kanter and McDermont for him... not Paul George. You think they wouldn’t of traded Kanter and McDermont for Blake Griffin if that was on the table over Melo?

This is what I mean by tinted glasses, in my opinion you just don’t see situations that rationally.
