    Jaylen Brown sophomore:
    14.1 points 5.7 rebounds 1.3 assists 1.1 steals 0.4 blocks 46.2 FG% 38.8 3PT%

    Brandon Ingram sophomore:
    16.1 points 5.4 rebounds 3.3 assists 0.8 steals 0.8 blocks 45.6 FG% 35.5 3PT%

Brown plays about 3 less minutes. Their per36 numbers are pretty similar. Jaylen averages slightly more rebounds and steals. Ingram averages more assists and a bit more blocks. Scoring is almost identical and efficiency is pretty similar with Brown ahead by a bit. I think part of that is role (Ingram asked to do more) and part of it is the C Bags being a way better team right now meaning better looks/opportunities and better coaching.

Real, so post a spread sheet of advanced metrics that involve 2nd year players league-wide. Then do the same with current star wing players and how they compared in their respective sophomore campaign.

Or you can just ignore my request and have someone counter your point/perspective by putting in the necessary work to respectfully match your efforts towards this discussion. After all, that is how a discussion board is supposed to work.

Some of y'all are unbelievable. Real, you're a better man than me.

Extrapolate Ingram’s chances of scoring between 81 and 100 points in a game based on the way the game is played as a whole today, pace and such, and how it was played in 1962 and 2006, and if it would be more or less impressive now.

And the correlation in degree of lip hyperpigmentation to free throw %age....

And how wingspan compares to # of arms...

But let's just call this for what it is...all these stats and comparisons really just comes down to how effective they are at creating O and how their D measures up...

    Pause!

At least for now, we know who has the largest pair of Balls...

let's say we're comparing the sizes of apples and oranges.

to begin with, you place two apples (one small and one large) and two oranges (one small and one large) on the table. each apple is larger than each orange, which can be verified with close inspection. someone notes this, because it seems others are suggesting the oranges are as large or larger. in response, you place the small apple, the big apple, and the big orange back on the table and note the smallness of the small apple.

i take the small apple off the table and simply compare big orange to big apple, coming to the same conclusion as before.

what's not presented is as important as what is.

or, to dispense with the fruit metaphors: i didn't think real was making a statement about ingram being on par with george, but it seemed others did. real's subsequent response suggested to me that indeed, he was trying to make that or a similar point. in doing so, we no longer got to see ingram's eyesore of a rookie season. if this is how we're going to make comparisons, we can tell lots of fun stories. instead of choosing age, i could choose: first season in which each started 30 games or in which each played 30mpg.

now, if the whole point is simply: developmental trajectories are flatter than people think. i'm down. i was stating that this summer when lots of folks were trying to justify magic's 20ppg proclamation.

but if the point is: you like paul george, why don't you like ingram?! i disagree. george was better and likely is better than ingram will be.

I agree with everything but the last part. I absolutely think that the trajectory of both is worth noting. Again: this is not at all dissimilar to what Russell fans were touting for years with the Per36 numbers. I don't actually love the extrapolation and no comparison is simply A to B, but they're still noteworthy nonetheless. I'm by no means suggesting that Ingram is Paul George. I'm suggesting that Ingram's trajectory is fine (even if he comes up short of being Paul George) and that we should be easier on the kid. And I still don't think I cherrypicked anything. I was just providing numbers. The same numbers that you separated out are in my original thread.

And if anything, you're the one who removed fruit in my opinion. I was giving age and experience so people could draw their own conclusions. What you did was take four mangoes and threw away the two mangoes you didn't think looked like the other two (I like mangoes).

it was the omission of ingram's rookie season that got me. it was part of the first post and not the second. this is when it went from informative to attempts at persuasion, imo.

anyway, yes, ingram isn't terrible at all. his failure to average 20ppg in his second season is no reason for concern at all. he's shown solid improvement from year one to year two, but hasn't really shown any flashes of stardom. and since you brought it up: russell did. russell's problem is that he can't stay on the floor. his early stats compared favorably to lots of top players. none of that is really true for ingram. we like him because he's ours and doesn't seem to have a drinking problem and bum knees, but we can just be honest about what's happening and what's not happening.

my main concern with ingram is that he does nothing defensively with his length. this bothers me, as my hope for him was skinny kawhi leonard/suped up tayshaun prince. if he's going to hang his hat on scoring...meh. moderately efficient 20ppg scorers are the stuff that "10 consecutive years in the lotto" teams are made of.

    we prefer "truthers".

You're going to be embarrassed in a couple of years to read back on what you were claiming as truth back then.

    :Magic Brows:

IMO. Been wrong once though. A long time ago. This year. OK more than once.

be thrilled if i'm wrong. fact is that almost no players end up on multiple all nba teams like george, so it's a pretty thick limb i'm standing on.

That's fair, but it was not an omission done with the purpose of misleading anyone. I was going off of Ingram's age as he came into the league a year younger than George. By excluding age, you are narrowing the scope of the stats as well and ignoring how being that young and having the body of Bambi would affect his ability to play. I still didn't cherrypick stats to help my argument though and if you'd like here are his rookie numbers stacked against Paul's:

    George:
    7.8 points 3.7 rebounds 1.1 assists 1 steal 0.4 blocks 45.3 FG% 29.7 3PT% 76.2 FT% 20.7 minutes (61 games/19 starts)

    Per36 George:
    13.5 points 6.4 rebounds 1.8 assists 1.8 steals 0.7 blocks

    Ingram:
    9.4 points 4 rebounds 2.1 assists 0.6 steals 0.5 blocks 40.2 FG% 29.4 3PT% 62.1 FT% 28.8 minutes (79 games/40 starts)

    Per36 Ingram:
    11.7 points 6.8 rebounds 3.5 assists 1.1 steals 0.8 blocks

That was one of the most confident games I’ve seen Brandon play.

Decisive, patient, and aggressive at the same time. When he’s plays like this, he’s our best scorer.
