I'm happy if we can get DMCuz with all things said and done. An all Star at the peak of his game with a personality
nobody is trying to make jim/mitch look competent...rather the opposit, magic/rob got no history n want us to believe theyre gona deliver just like that?
Yeah I'm biased for BIGS. Except our last few signings/trades here plainly sucked. so beware, Demarcus
just hell no. the 20xx plan has worked for exactly nobody ever outside of pat riley in miami. trying to replicate that is like trying to replicate the shaq signing (which is more like what you're saying, actually). the circumstances that created those possibilities come once a decade, if that. nobody wants more mozdengs, but the idea that it's wait for stars or overpay bad players is just wrong. you should understand the million shades of gray between those extremes. if our FO said, like mitch did when he had the job, that we were hoarding cap space in order to capitalize on lots of possibilities, i would have said ok. it's the explicit star chasing agenda that worries me. i'm not worried about more mozdengs. there were several of those across the league that summer. it's a different economic climate now. what i am worried about is having to watch another year like this one. and btw, the 20xx+1 plans eventually lead to you having to make choices about paying young players who will eat into that precious cap space. in other words, long term, it means you have to just let assets walk in service of the chase. there are better paths to success, and having an open mind is the first step.
yep the 20xx+1 doesnt go on forever, every yr it gets pushed back we get closer to having to pay a young guy his ext which eats into the cap or we trade em for lesser value or they walk with nothing to show for it....20xx+1 still has its pitfalls....n worse part is we would keep on signing scrubs n or these 1yr contract guys who dont give an F whether we lose or win as long as they get their stats
Or you can retain that space while you develop your youth. Surround them guys with winners/stars and push them to that next level s*** (a la West bringing in Shaq to push Kobe). If no star player comes via free agency then wait on your young core to get better (a la the Dubs) and bring in vet stop gaps (I repeat no MozDengs ever again!) Meanwhile some star becomes disgruntled and you can either A)wait on that disgruntled star to become a FA or B)trade one of your young guys for him especially if they're asking for too much money and will eat into the cap space we created with our patient approach. 20xx plan takes care of the fans who want instant success so that we can instantly take on the Dubs And if it goes sideways, 20xx plan takes care of the fans who want to let our young boys develop and wait out the current Dubs reign as we slowly ascend to dethroning them. I think the 20xx plan is opportunistic (probably one of Mitch's only wins with the Gasol trade after Drew went down); it is flexible (you're not locked in to MozDeng); it creates the possibility of instant glory (Riles did it in Miami and ain't Magic and Riles tight?...I'm sure they talk) This plan checks off all the boxes and some of y'all don't like it? Man, tough crowd.
Magic/rob 20xx plan is purely signing max guys, has nothing to do with developing our players, that part is an after thought. Magic clearly stated as such, rather then saying he wants the team to progress n develop as much as possible, he added the caveat that they wanted the players to play well enough to attract the max lvl stars. We've been told of this plan before, most are just skeptical its going to go accordingly
If we wanted stars at the expense of our youth, it would have already happened. Paul George would be here in LA while BI, Zo and Randle would be making Kevin's Prickhard in Indy.
That's caused magic banking on pg "rumors" n that clearly was not indy asking price, they wanted bi or #2 n instead from rumors magic offered nothing
I think now, that "PG is hellbent in coming home" has quickly become a curse rather than a blessing. This summer, if OKC doesn't even make it to the WCF, there'll be no more legitimate excuse in refusing to sign with the Lakers than saying "if PG isn't, why would I" unless that "star" couldn't care less of winning in medium term of things. And that's the goal. Anything less of a WCF for OKC and PG is ours. They do and we're royally screwed. Magic should start scheming a logical backup plan B. Because if their focus is mainly around getting a walk-in PG and his domino effect, they have no business running LA's front office. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
And can we use 201x plan instead of 20xx. The latter just appears to be a very distant future and thinking about it makes me feel frustrated and exhausted already. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
Meh. LaVar knows .... you know he knows ..... that he is as smart and strategic as all of these guys no matter who, including the President of the United States who may have played a major role in keeping his son out of a Chinese prison. It's all a game to him. Look how far I've come on my own and how big and famous I'm making this family.
Watching OKC v POR and it looks like PG's team will drop this one. I hope so. Add one more L against a sub 0.500 and we welcome back our PG wagon. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
They’re getting blown out, wow. I mean they are a good team, they will be a factor in the playoffs, but I still don’t trust them, I don’t trust the mix, I don’t trust Melo’s defense. Hope they lose tonight and we pick up a win though.
Main issue in tonight's game, Melo's defense. He gets lost in switches, losing sight of the man he's guarding. Everything in his defense is terrible. I hope they don't meet any legit team soon because that's when they thrive. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
Oops. They'll be facing a streaking TWolves tomorrow. Count that as a win for OKC already. But I hope they get blown out badly. Then we give them Randle & Clarkson for PG and everybody's happy. Yeah, maybe not. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
