Was so good to see him hit a few threes and get confidence. Shame ESPN will refuse to air the footage.
Yeah, when he started missing in the 4th he started to hesitate. Shame too, because when he doesn’t he shoots better no question.
He doesn’t really seem afraid of any matchup, that’s a good trait. When Steph wasn’t shooting well and he hit those threes, he immediately started playing harder on d, smartly faked a 3 and drove to the hoop, and had a spring in his step. Was good to see, I hope he can play like that more when shots aren’t falling, not get too down on himself.
He had a nice stretch then went back to his Larry Nance mode again ... I don't understand why he doesn't drive more .
He had a nice stretch and was benched. When he came back in, he wasn't hot anymore and lost confidence. He let the game take him over instead of the other way around. He's only a kid, but one thing I would love for him to take on is bringing the energy every single game. I know that not too long ago the coaches challenged him to board more, I want to keep seeing that. His ability to push the tempo is crucial to our starters. When we try to go slow, we're just not effective.
That stretch where he made two threes back to back and then drove for a layup, you could see the confidence in his step. More please.
Professor Gilbert? Does he pull out a gun on you if you miss 3 in a row to scare you into breaking the habit?
actually pretty insightful it appears to be pretty easy for great athletes to get Ball out of his game and take away what he does offensively. Until he makes adjustments, he will continue to struggle on most nights.
I agree. He needs to fix his shot in the offseason. It'll probably take 2-3 years but it'll be good for him (and us) in the long run.
In the meantime, he's effective when running fast and pushing the pace. Half court he's limited in getting his own shot, but that can come in time. Just focus on what you are good at.
Yep, I'm not happy with the coaches letting him continue to chuck threes. They are a % destroyer. He's shooting 25% from there. They need to do what they did with Ingram and just tell him to focus on easy buckets, rebounds and assists. No more early shot clock threes for a while. Give it a rest and get your percentages up. Do what you do best. And more drive and kick please.
No need to rebuild the shot, just have to keep working on it. It's easy for Arenas to armchair 1st-Team defense and he's got good points, but there's no evidence that Ball needs to overhaul his shot. He just has to find his spots better and take better shots. Ingram was a skinny, wimpy looking kid his rookie year but he consistently took it to the rim and got contact even if he wasn't always successful. Eventually he found the angles he wanted. Ball needs to do the same and then find his jumper off of that.
I'm with @therealdeal No need to change his shot. Just needs confidence and add a midrange game. Yeah, he's bricking from 3. And when 90% of your shots are from 3, the % is horrible. But he'll be fine. Trust the Process.
He doesn’t need to totally change his shot. The mechanics are fine, just unorthodox. What he needs to do is condense the windup he uses to get into his shot so he can get it off much faster and with less space.
Agreed. It would be detrimental to make his shot more orthodox when he's a left eye dominant shooter. I think it would be good in the long term if he could change the set point of his shot. As Arenas said, it's impossible for him to pull up going right with how he currently shoots and it's probably the reason why he never took many mid range jumpers at UCLA. He should look at someone like Durant as someone to replicate as KD is a left eye dominant shooter, but brings the ball more towards the center when he shoots.
