Unfortunately, most critiques of Lonzo will devolve into discussions about excessive coverage or meaningless stats in today's sports media. That's the name of the game now. How many times do we need to hear "it's way too early... but <insert opinion>" takes? Or the January "these games mean nothing, but... <insert opinion>" takes?

His shot needs work. Or he just needs to shorten his wind up. Clearly, that's easier said than done. Other than that he is affecting basketball games on a level that is years ahead of him. Guards with multi-year careers don't sniff what he's starting to do. Sure, consistency would be nice - but he's obviously a rookie and I'm not at all discouraged in what I see.

How anyone could be anything but encouraged is just a foreign concept to me. He's a rookie, he'll have bumps and bruises, but all-in-all he looks great.

Not a great game scoring, but he did the little things again. Solid defensive effort, 15 boards, some nice assists, and hit a couple threes. One of the threes right when he came back in the game with us down 7 was pretty big.

Edit: apparently 14 boards now, possibly even 13, but still.

Lonzo is tied for 5th in the entire league in total assists with Jeff Teague. The only names above him: Westbrook, Harden, LeBron, and Wall.

All 5 of those players are also in the top 23 for turnovers (cut off is usually 20, but there's a tie for 20th).

    Lonzo isn't.

    Big Baller Boarder.

Kid has a nose for rebounds and defense. If anything, this kids floor is far from a bust. He does so much more than any other PG other that "shoot".

    He's almost like...Rookie Rondo.

Ugh. See this is what I'm talking about. Insane. I've never seen anyone except Kobe get this much scrutiny and impunity. A triple double is "unimpressive", Lonzo is getting now getting assists that shouldn't be there. I'm sick of this garbage.

Should we start breaking down film of all the assists LeBron gets?

Some of those assists are highly suspect

Are they really counting those as assists? Do other players get assists for plays like those? Those aren't assists.

See ..... you hate Lonzo now too. Questioning his assists now. A Lakers fan no less! I rest my case... LaVar Ball is insufferable and is turning the world against Lonzo.

Alot of room for interpretation based on the official definition on NBA.com

IMHO, those aren't assists. However, a statistician can argue that they saw it that way since it led to a direct score. But I'm sure a Lakers stat person vs a Denver stat person would see each play differently.

I always thought anything less than two dribbles after a pass that directly led to an immediate hoop was an assist. Those in the video are borderline but if you want to open that can of worms, you will probably find it's a league wide thing rather than pumping up one player's stats.

IIRC, wasn't this a thing too with Rondo in Boston?

I don't know if BSPN cried foul when teammates were literally running away from rebounds so Westbrook could get them last year, but would not be surprised if they didn't

ESPN found their new Kobe to bash. Let them hate, it'll make it all the more sweeter when we are back in the promise land.

They didn’t do that with Westbrook, at all. His triple doubles were celebrated, not scrutinized. None of these stats are looked at in any detail, everything in the nba is just accepted as it’s labeled. Someone at ESPN genuinely hates Lonzo and the Lakers, nobody else gets this sort of incredible nit-picking. I don’t see anyone dissecting Simmons’ assists when I’m sure if you looked close you’d find the same borderline assists. I’m sure you would for CP3 and many others as well.
