He's not quite the "bulldog" defender that I expected, but he's definitely above average. His other skills are what surprising me. A decent stroke, good ability off the dribble and finish, and a constant motor. It's like if Lou Williams was an all around player. Consistent.
I just get so much pleassure at watching how hard he works and moves his feet through the screens on defense. He just plays with so much effort on that side of the ball. Keep it up KCP. I just would like you to shoot better from 3. At least shoot the same percentage you did last year from three - 35%.
Remember its his first year in the West.. Watching tape will allow him to remember tendencies and be familiar with players' play.
He's a way better off ball defender ( chasing guys through screens , denying/playing the passing lanes) than an on ball defender . His playmaking abilities is the most pleasant surprise
He has a tremendous over the shoulder pass out to Lopez off a pick and pop. Lopez sort or bobbled it and hesitated so nothing came of it, but I wish Pope would be more aggressive as a playmaker. He's a pretty damn good pick and roll passer.
Probably shocked Lopez. Looks like we have another capable ball handler then... Takes some pressure off our "phenom" running the floor.
His three point shooting might not be there, but I love the way this guy plays. He doesn’t take plays off on defense, he’s going top speed at all times. Kinda reminds me of a guard version of MWP in that way. That full court take, behind the back dribble, no look pass to Kuzma was aweome too.
Lets hope he gets the 3 going... If Lonzo can too in general on offense well take a nice lil step forward.
He was huge in that last, pivotal, possession. Got the strip and came down and got the game clinching shot. His defense is definitely solid. not a shut down defender, but not many wing defenders are. How many SGs have won DPOY ? None since Jordan in 88.
KCP is sooooo streaky! Man, he was cold in the first half but when he got it going he was on fire. Scary moment with that hip injury but glad it wasn't serious. Came back with the steal to seal the deal! Loved that.
Just objectively his speed and athleticism and defense along with that "streaky" offense gives us so much more at the 2 than Russell's streaky offense would have given us. The defense these guys are playing this year is turning consistent game after game. And we are faster and more athletic than most everyone so far. What a difference this roster from last year.
He deserves a hell of a lot more love! He's really starting to mesh with Lonzo and he's starting to be exactly who we wanted him to be. That defensive play at the end of the game was tremendous and the shot he hit was truly clutch. To hit a pull-up leaner over Marc Gasol to ice the game is pure confidence and that's something Pope brings to the court. He's got a penchant for hitting the big shot. I don't know if he's going to be here long-term, but again he's establishing the perfect mold to stick next to Lonzo.
Perfect pairing next to Lonzo and he has played as advertised, heck maybe even a bit more impressive than I initially thought. Take my hip if you need it KCP.
