Bad game tonight. Needs to be more aggressive. There were too many instances where Lonzo would try and probe and get into the lane only to pass back out and not look to try and score.
I agree that he's really got to be assertive with his shot from time to time, but the guy played a good floor game when he was on the court. +10 was tops on the team and we were competitive in this game...so I'll chalk it up to rookie tentativeness. It took one lucky shot from Dame to down us in spite of zero from Zo and the team shooting just a 4/18 three ball. He absolutely needs to work on his shot tho. I don't think those mechanics can stick. We need to deconstruct it...I have no doubt.
Wow I dunno. Deconstructing a life long basketball habit like that (thanks LaVar for that) ..... could mean years of shooting poorly if they even felt comfortable trying to get him to do it. Although Big Mama Jamma and his son at the game the other night, in warm ups, saw Lonzo maybe doing just that .... working on releasing it from in front of him. You'd think it shouldn't be any harder than someone making up their mind to develop their off hand if they want to badly enough and have the work ethic to do it. Baby steps with it possibly, and maybe already under way?
the three point shot is officially troubling. i'm not sure we can make more excuses for it. he's also pretty unsteady under ball pressure in the half court (as some of us expected). otherwise, his game is in good shape. unfortunately, that long range shooting was a big selling point.
Agreed. I think his mechanics is the reason for his shooting woes, it's a long motion and takes him a while to gather his shot up. It's nearly impossible for him to shoot going right and as a result, every defender will try to force him that way. It looked like he gave up shooting when he got a screen, drove right, and airballed a 3. I also think his conditioning needs work, he looked tired out there at the end.
Lonzo is a bust already in the WMC thread. Seems only yesterday he was posting nearly a 30 point triple double. Oh well. Ship his *** out.
the 29 point game was an aberration, but that's ok. he wasn't billed as a scorer. but if he doesn't make himself more of a threat to score, he won't be a facilitator either. again, these were my pre-draft concerns. he has a long time to pull it together, though.
I agree and I don't. He's shown he can be a scorer. Right now I think the problem is in his head. He's not comfortable and he's thinking a lot. He looks like a kid. The good news is that his talent is undeniable. He just has to get more aggressive. it's never a great sign when you have to tell your star to stay aggressive (ideally you want him to have Kuzma's mentality), but the talent is there and that's what you're born with or you're not.
I agree. The other night was exactly what I wanted to see from Lonzo vs Detroit. Tonight was a step back, but that’s okay. It happens. Learn from it. Get better. I’m sure he’ll have a better game tonight vs Brooklyn.
He needs to be aggressive offensively. Period. There's no excuse to put up 0 points and then give up 30 on the other end. None. I'm beginning to think that Kuzma really is our best rookie. I was joking about it before the year started but forreal, Kuzma is better than Lonzo right now. Also, Lonzo needs to fix that shot. I think 8 games is enough for me to say that he really needs to change it. Lavar needs to STFU as well about his shot not needing help. It DOES and it'll be the bane of Lonzo's existence until further notice.
you may very well be right and he'll need to fix the shot, but no, 8 games is not a significant enough sample size. the biggest problem isn't missing shots; it's the mental issue of not even looking to take shots.
You don't need to second guess yourself. Kuzma IS our best rookie. He's ranked 4th on nba.com's rookie ladder for a reason.
Like I said before, he is a special talent. But man, he looks sort of useless in the half court when someone is consistently up giving him ball pressure. Needs to be more aggressive.
