This was a golden opportunity for him to prove that he's a starting caliber PG in the league. He has the tools to do it, he just doesn't have the mentality to do it.
I wasn't as disappointed as a lot of people because I wasn't expecting much from him. I remember people jumping for joy when we got him and I've never seen him as anything more than the flash in the pan with the Knicks. Great story, but you can't make a career out of that. I didn't think he was worth the price, the hype, or fit with this team. Funny enough if anyone could've made him look like a starting PG it would've been MDA (and he would've ensured him a fat contract from someone next year), but if I had to watch that buffoon coach one more game I was going to gouge my eyes out with a spork. I do find it pathetic that this was his big shot though and he did NOTHING with it. When Kobe went out there was no ball stopper (ok...maybe Swaggy P) on the roster and it really should've opened up things for him and his stats should've gone through the roof. He's not going to get a better league wide audition than the opportunity he had and he squandered that to the point that he got benched for a career backup from the Jazz and a rookie. Not only did he not help his stock, he did significant damage to it. He'll still get another chance somewhere. A team that pushes the tempo and runs a lot more P&R (GSW or Suns if Dragic leaves), but he lefts several millions out there and he's not going to get them back. It might not be his personality or demeanor to take charge like this, but at a point man-up. It's your livelihood and your career, make a move.
I completely agree. This was his shot and everyone stood to gain from him stepping up into the spotlight. He doesn't want to replicate NY... Why the **** not?? He was at his most successful then. If he channeled that he'd be making tens of millions right now. Instead he got beat out by Ronnie Price. Then Clarkson stepped in and has been more effective. Right now I could see him playing (successfully playing to boot) in Phoenix next season. I'd love to get Dragic and then let them pick-up Lin. I'm fine with that.
I'm definitely disappointed. I agree with you guys that this was his shot. I was pulling for him but he just didn't take advantage of the opportunity. The sad thing is that he has the talent but something is wrong with him upstairs. I just don't think he has the mental makeup to be successful in the NBA. He has the talent but not the mentality. He's way too nice and is completely lacking in attitude and aggression. He needs to play the game like he has a chip on his shoulder. Take Nick Van Exel for example. I don't think the talent gap is that wide between the 2 but Nick played the game with a chip on his shoulder but Jeremy doesn't. That's the difference.
Hey, go figure, Houston wants him back according to this article: Report: Rockets to pursue Jeremy Lin in free agency Dan Feldman http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....in-in-free-agency/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs Feb 12, 2015, 11:33 AM EST 21 Comments AP The Rockets traded Jeremy Lin to the Lakers last summer, but the deal had little to do with Lin. It was mostly about his contract (and his inability to play up to it) Houston wanted cap space to pursue Chris Bosh, and Los Angeles wanted the first-round pick the Rockets attached as a sweetener. So, don’t be surprised if Daryl Morey – who brought Lin to training camp before Linsanity and gave him his first big contract after – wants Lin back. Howard Beck of Bleacher Report: The Rockets remain high on Lin and are expected to be among his chief suitors this summer. Houston already has a solid starting point guard in Patrick Beverley, but he’ll be a restricted free agent this summer. Though he’s a better fit with James Harden in the backcourt, Beverley might be too costly for the Rockets to retain – at least if they want to maintain flexibility. Lin could be a cheaper alternative who allows Houston to upgrade elsewhere. Or he could back up to Beverley or someone else. The Lakers have diminished Lin’s value to the point they probably can’t trade him. He probably has not future beyond this season in Los Angeles. Houston makes as much sense as anywhere for his next stop, and Morey keeping Lin for the first two cheap years of his contract, getting another team to pay Lin’s real-dollar $14,898,938 salary this season – Lin’s cap hit is still $8,374,646 – and then re-signing Lin would be such a Morey move. Sure, the Rockets general manager had to give up a first rounder to dump Lin, but it allowed Houston to sign Trevor Ariza and saved owner Leslie Alexander plenty of cash. And the Rockets would still get Lin in the end. Of course, Lin would have to forgive Morey’s (chemistry-deprived?) Rockets for putting his number on a Carmelo Anthony jersey before trading Lin. Lin won’t command as much as he did three years ago, but here’s betting he signs with whichever team offers him the most money. It’s up to the Rockets whether or not that will be them.
I really wanted him to thrive here. But at this point, I don't want to see him next year. Question: What if we don't trade him and he flourishes after the All-Star break?
He does not want to go back to linsanity, the only way he can be productive so basically he's useless
Not hugely disappointed as I wasn't exactly jumping up and down when we got him. But I really did expect more from him given his talent. The inconsistency is just glaring in his game, and I'm still not sure why. He has flashes of real brilliance and talks the talk about being aggressive, but only brings it on occasion. He definitely had a shot here to do a lot more and he didn't. I don't see him coming back and I wouldn't pay what it would probably take to keep him either. Just too inconsistent. For what it's worth I was rooting for him to make his mark here. I still like him - his personality and his game. But man, he just did not make enough impact on a regular basis.
Love the line "The Lakers have diminished Lin's value to the point they probably can't trade him." Oh we have? We didn't give him every single opportunity to get his value up? Really? F*** off Feldman and goodbye Lin. It's been unfortunate watching you in a Laker jersey.
That is blatantly ridiculous. He's had plenty of room to prove himself here and never played with any kind of consistency.
Only a person outside the organization could think we've tanked his value. If Lin could play at a high level, he'd be playing at a high level right now. Our team is terrible and he has had every opportunity to break out. Instead our leaders have been Ellington and Clarkson. It's on HIM. Lin can go back to Houston where the expectations are zero again. Have fun with Howard and Harden.
He always seems to have this victim attitude. Like he's always down on himself or something is always wrong, and I don't get it. If he just played his game and did it with confidence consistently he'd be a good player. To me he seems to get in his own way, he's timid and mentally weak/fragile. That's not the kind of player you want when trying to build back to a title team. And that surprises me honestly, because what I saw of him in his last playoff series with Houston, he was fighting and tough out there til the end. He was Howard and Harden's whipping boy yet he still was fighting hard at the end of games, not even letting mistakes he was making stop him from going right back at it next trip down. I just can't figure the guy out, sometimes he looks really good, sometimes he looks invisible. Either way, I don't want him back, there are better backup PG options out there, or at least no worse for much cheaper. Hell, Clarkson plays with more fire and heart than him, and even Ronnie Price took his spot, which never should have happened.
^^ Agreed, Weezy. I think he gets in his own way somehow. Too bad. I was hoping he could rekindle the fire here, especially after how he was treated by those two knuckleheads in Houston, but now it sounds like he's ready to go back there for more abuse. I was rooting for him here. Oh well.
Lin's been really disappointing. I really thought he could be a solid role player for us. But we did diminish his trade value. Give him some minutes so that he can have better looking numbers. He's averaging 14.5 ppg and 6.4 apg per 36. Those numbers look solid (keyword: look) and I think that can net us something. Instead, he's averaging only 25 mpg so his numbers look like crap, and it's even harder to trade him. We'll probably not get anything for him. Oh well. At least we got that Houston pick.
Let's be real....He's not flourishing after the all-star break. And even if he does I still dont want him because he's still the same inconsistent player we feared he would be.
I'm so glad it could come when we need to lose every game. I fear the sudden push of players that need a contract next season. Thankfully I don't believe Lin has many of these games in him, huge disappointment.
