I don't know because everything I've seen (Russ's twitter and Instagram stories) and twitter Russ' brothers I thought are what kept Russ out of a lot of trouble and helped him survive LA throughout these last 2 years. When we draft Russ and I heard that his brothers were moving out to LA with him to keep him in line and make sure he stays out of trouble I was thankful. Overall I thought they did just that from what we know of.

So, I just kind of disagree with what your saying as far as his brothers bossing him around and not being a good thing. I do, however, think there is some truth to what your saying when it comes to the notion that if Russ doesn't think you have his best interest he'll go off and do his own thing.

I'm just repeating what was said in the article.

They didn't say Russ had a bad relationship with his brothers now, but they plainly said his attitude today, is due in large part to how he responded to his brothers trying to push him around when they were young.

    another nugget:

"I think guys enjoyed playing with me," D'Angelo Russell said. "Now I'm going to make sure they do instead of not really taking it into consideration."

Definitely better suited to be a SG since he is not a natural leader, but his excuse for not playing D is pretty pathetic. Screams lack of accountability, entitlement, etc. Just what you want for qualities in your floor leader.

Hope he figures it all out. Right now I feel like we stole from NJ.

Those are genuinely some of the dumbest quotes I've ever read from a ball player. I'm less bummed Russ isn't around anymore every day.

Sigh... Why do you have to "want to" play defense? Liked the young man's talent but really?

Luke isn't one to bad mouth a player, so for him to say, "I hope he eventually gets it" is pretty inflammatory and about as harsh as Luke will be in public.

I was hoping to see D'Angelo and Ball, but big picture, I'm not gonna miss him. I'm happy with Lopez and Kuzma going forward than anything D'Angelo and Moz were gonna give us.

I don't at all like the head on Russell's shoulders.

I don't want to hear that crap out of Nick Young though. You cheated on your wife or fiance or whatever she was. What Russell did was stupid, but have some accountability.

Seriously though Russell's excuses for his play here are... both eye opening and yet not surprising. I'm with @John3:16 "I hope he figures it out" is a telling quote.

nothing new here; he's got a james harden mentality. the question is whether he has enough talent to overcome it. harden has (and he's still harden, personality-wise).

I assume he couldn't make it. Randle has said he and D'Angelo were close (although their on-court chemistry indicates otherwise). I'll just go by what we've been told and figure that Russell had a prior engagement of some kind.

It's a good point, I'm just trying not to go to that conclusion.

Not gonna lie it was tough seeing Russell hit that game winning shot the other night with all the fans behind him as he is shooting it and then rushing him.

    What could have been.....

And unfortunately the only way I think I will feel better is if he really struggles in BRK, but I don't think that's going to happen.

it's best to just divorce yourself emotionally from russell. if he succeeds in bkn, there's any number of variables that could have turned the tide. if he fails, same deal. the lakers made their decision, and the fans (and russell) have to simply move on.

i will say that i don't like the way russel has "moved on". some of those quotes above don't scream growth and learning.

    we'll see.

i'll watch some bkn games, for sure.
