    Yes, please. So sick of crappy eastern conf teams making the playoffs.

    Even doing this though, you still get weaker eastern teams in just due to the fact that they play more of their games against weaker eastern opponents. But, thats just how it is, can't really fix this unless every team plays every other team in the league the same amount of times.

    I like this.

    Rack and stack based on record, 1 - 16 (meaning #1 plays #16, irregardless of conference). Thoughts? Instead of the the Lakers playing an overmatched NJ team back in 02, the Finals would've been LA and Sac, which is really what it should've been. The toughest team that 3peat team faced was always in the West. I'd love for that to be the final series.

    I've been all for this since a couple years ago. The Eastern conference is a joke. There 2nd best team would be 6th out West. I'm sick of seeing teams with losing records be in the playoffs. It's incrdible that no one talks about how easy Lebron has it in the playoffs, he would have such a hard time trying to get to the finals of he was out West.

    If they did a 1 vs. 16 and so on and if the playoffs started today, we'd currently be looking at:
    GS vs OKC
    ATL vs NO
    MEM vs PHO
    HOU vs MIL
    POR vs CHI
    TOR vs WAS
    LAC vs CLE
    DAL vs SA

    Notice there's only one East vs East matchup...sad. Would certainly make for a much more exciting post-season.

    But then all the small market teams that are already ruining the NBA will be the first ones to lead the charge against this happening

    Votes towards NBA decisions like these should be based on how much income the team gives the league.
    That said, this is merely the yearly lip service we hear. Year after year the eastern conference champs face much less competition on the road to the finals which means they have an unfair advantage.

    I'm glad Silver is speaking publicly about this.

    The playoffs are where the best teams play, and fans pay more for tickets and advertisers pay more for spots. When sub .500 teams are playing in the postseason, you're diluting the quality of the product.

    But it will be a pain in the neck getting the leastern conference owners onboard.

    I'm not so sure that's true. The teams that don't deserve to make the playoffs now but still make them are just stuck in being a decent team since the top 8 have to go to the playoffs, and sort of stay there for many years. But if their postseason was indicative of how good they actually were, they would have a lottery pick, which would help propel them out of being just decent.

    It's less important for small teams to be successful than it is for them to be profitable. Going to the playoffs means a lot more money. Why would Milwaukee be in favor of this system? Right now they can be a .500 team, make the playoffs, and make a couple more million.

    You're right. But one profits by being successful. Right now, the problem with the format is that success (of reaching the playoffs) is only relative to the success of the rest of the teams in your conference, and can be skewed. The proposed change balances out that skew.

    I believe this would bring better playoff games, and as it is, I love the NBA playoffs. If that could increase exponentially, I'd be a happy camper. Please do this Adam Silver.

    That's the problem for fans, but it's not the problem for teams. The NBA from an owner's perspective is about making money first, then winning. We as Laker fans have been spoiled by one of the few owners who values winning over the bottom dollar. The Lakers are still about a profit of course, but we're (the Buss family) are willing to take slightly less profit to be a more successful team. Most teams aren't run that way.

    The Timberwolves, Bucks, Pistons, Hornets, Pelicans, and even teams like Boston and Cleveland if they weren't helped out are all comfortable operating with a sub-par team and reaping the benefits. Why? Because they can spend less money and keep making a profit.

    As fans we want to eliminate those teams from the playoffs and as an organization the NBA would benefit from more competitive playoffs, but as owners why would they willingly give up a profit?

    I guess I'm just not seeing why the owners would be giving up a profit. The only ones giving up a profit temporarily would be the teams in the East that are currently top 8 in their conference but not top 16 overall. But not for long, because they would go to the lottery and have the opportunity to rebuild and become stronger, and make the top 16 overall eventually. And I see that as a profit long-term, because instead of being mediocre and staying at the 6-8 seed in the East and never making it out of the first round, they would get the draft pick they really deserve, and be able to improve with it to actually have a chance at winning it all.
