Because Clarkson and Randle are replaceable. And 27 and 28 are nothing. Lakers need to win now. And randle and clarkson are not game changers. Never will be.
Randle is nowhere near as replaceable as you say. Double double machines with the ability to run the break aren't easily replaced. He has his flaws but to act like we could replace him so easily is head scratching.
the lakers clearly have no intention of paying randle. clarkson is nice, but totally replaceable. for example, if SAS wanted to dump danny green, you could simply take him into clarkson's salary slot. i'd prefer to keep one or the other, but long term, i'm not sure it matters. sounds like the lakers plan on clearing the decks by this time next year, one way or the other. get the george deal done now. no #2, no ingram, no zubac. only one of nance/randle. after that, i'm not crying.
Lakers need to win now? Randle and Clarkson are not game changers? That's just emotions. The value of Paul George is, at this point, at an all time low. We are bidding against ourselves. This kind of emotional panic mode is precisely what brought us here in the first place.
I don't think that's clear. But I agree, once we have Paul George, it'll be easier to take a breath and not feel too bad about losing whatever kids went out. Zubac, Ingram, and Ball is no slouch group to build around the future with. George and another max deal (LeBron?) to push them and make us competitive while also having a "farm system" developing along is an ideal place to be while the Warriors win titles.
His talent is undeniable. The stuff in between his brains is whats missing. He is not a game in and game out difference maker. It's worse that he has the skill set he has and doesn't too. He is too easily distracted. Like Dlo. The only thing with Dlo, was his skillset was perennial all star worthy once he figured it out.
It's not panic. Randle and Clarkson with 2 first rounders are fair for a 2-way, 23 point a game all star in his prime. Lakers have money to spend this summer if they want to cover some depth. Im just saying, get George now, lets go if thats what they take. Pray Lonzo's PG skills translates and this team will be a playoff team next year.
No reason to trade both Randle or Clarkson. That's absurd. Those idiots in Indiana don't have a foot to stand on.
Randle and Clarkson are space cadet's. They aren't as obnoxious about it as Radmonoivic was when he came to practice with vans but they are bench players who aren't going to really amount to anything other then being that player that has 1 good game a week and that's it.
Clarkson is instant offense off the bench. Randle is a double double guy. I disagree that they're amount to anything. They're both solid NBA players.
solid nba players, definitely. you can sign those in FA if you have a paul george already on the squad. if you don't, you have to overpay for them insanely (see: mozdeng). thus, you give them up to get george. again, prior to george's declaration, we would have all traded randle/clarkson/28 for george. what's changed? i'm annoyed that we, in a separate deal, dumped a more talented player for cap space. if you can forgive that, you can CERTAINLY forgive trading two fringe starters for a perennial all nba level player.
There is no such thing as a fair trade. There is circumstance and perception. Circumstance, at this junction, is that we have the leverage. This means we don't have to give them fair value. That's how this kind of market works. So... without going into non-quantifiable s*** like "Randle is worth more/less than..." -- We end up giving Russell, Randle, Clarkson, Mozgov, 28 for Lopez/CapSpace, George. Here is the kicker. We didn't need to give any of that to get George. We still don't.
Yeah that's the one thing I'm clear on, I don't just throw in Clarkson AND Randle if I don't have to. Not because George isn't worth that, simply because if I don't have to why do I give up assets? If I can only send Randle then I still have Clarkson for other trade possibilities. If I only have to trade Clarkson then we have Randle to see going into really only his 3rd season if he's gonna break out or stay what he's been. He's worked on his body clearly, and if that translates to the court dude can still be a beast. And that's coming from someone who has been as critical of Randle as anyone here.
i think the mistake is assuming that the world 12 months from now is the same as the world is now. so paying market value is fine. it's not about winning trades; it's about winning games.
Word. Anyway, still no progress huh. Tomorrow, I'll offer them squat if I'm Magic. 27 & 28 will cut it. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
