I've heard this for years. How we can finally free up room for a bunch of superstars to come to LA. And then it never happens. Are you ready for Boston to trade for PG13, he re-ups there after a successful season, Lebron bolts to the Clippers? Meanwhile we've lost our best young asset just to free up cap room ... to overpay another Mozgov after we strike out on the superstars? That's just as real of a possibility.

I'm good with deals. I know myself, @LaVarBallsDad, @therealdeal and several others discussed the strong possibility that the team would look very different next year and that some of our young guys would be gone. I can't help but feel a bit like last season though when free agency started and I was waiting for Laker news and then we got the Woj bomb that we had signed Mosgov. I think this series of moves will turn out much better than that did, but our first trade was definitely a bit deflating.
If future trades are similar to dumping Russell for little value, then I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers end up sending out more young talent. I just hope the Lakers get a better return than just cap space and salary dumps for the possibility of signing a FA in 2018.
Like I said at the time, we killed his value. Our problems with Russell were the worst kept secret in the league. Couldn't even get a pick in the teens.
