This is the only way we should go after PG now.. If Indy will take Deng + 28 + JC (or comperable) we should absolutely do it now.. Not if they want #2 + a Starter though.

C'mon. They aren't taking Deng unless we offer up one of our 3 top assets (Ball, Ingram, Russell) They'd be better off letting PG13 walk than taking on Deng's deal. Taking on Deng's deal isn't worth a likely fringe starter (28th pick) and a sixth man.

This just makes me more nervous like he's getting second thoughts and might be okay with playing for those C Bags

"Gordon Hayward will be a free agent this summer, and buzz regarding a reunion with Brad Stevens is starting to ramp up.

According to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Boston C Bags are "really focused on trying to get Gordon Hayward from Utah in free agency."

Wojnarowski added that he thinks C Bags general manager Danny Ainge will "go really hard after Hayward on July 1." "

*can't seem to link the bleacher-report article for some reason*

If they can get Hayward, that leaves pretty much just us in the PG hunt.
Not sure if Hayward is as keen on leaving Utah though, they're in a good place right now but he'd be in a better place with Boston.

Exactly. Which is the reason why I think the Lakers shouldn't gamble on waiting.

Give them an okay trade instead of them getting zilch.

I would try to include Deng but if it's a deal breaker fine.

Omar LIttle, moderator on LG, has said that Isaiah Thomas and Fultz workout together, and they want to play together. Ainge is keeping the pick, taking Fultz, and going after Hayward this summer, and he has a pretty good chance to acquire him. Oh, yeah, IMO. :).

I've changed my position on the Paul George situation.

Keep your draft pick, select Ball, and wait until Free Agency in 2018 to pursue George.

You'd have a crop of blue chip lottery talent to pair with 2 Free Agent(s) next year.

    Exactly.

Now imagine if we didn't have the bad contracts of Moz and Deng taking up a large number of space and had all that extra money to go after additional FA in 2018 :Brows:

It's why I'm not totally against pairing our #28 pick with Deng or Moz (prefer Deng) if possible to get that off the books.

Just makes much more sense; you'd have players you'd drafted, developed, (some of which on rookie scaled salaries), and then you add to that talent pool with impact FA's.

We'll have be competing for the next 10 years if we build this team correctly.

We can easily do this because of our unique situation; we're in Los Angeles. Minnesota, Milwaukee, Sixers, Sacramento, and other teams can't do it because they don't offer much in location (who wants to play there) or they have inept Front Offices (in the case of Sac).

Question and this is extremely speculative.

Scenario 1. PG stays in Indy or got traded to some other team but eventually signs with Lakers next year. Meanwhile, with the addition of a super rookie, Lakers either barely sneaked in the playoffs or tanked for another year with a 30 win season, tops.

Scenario 2. Lakers able to pull off a trade acquiring PG in the process but had to give up at least two decent assets. The team settled somewhere around 6-8th seed and able to put up a fight against their 1st round opponent or maybe even manage via a 20% chance make it to the second round.

Going into summer of 2018, which scenario would place us in a better situation moving forward? Because that's how I see everything is gonna pan out.

If you read that Amick piece and felt worse, you missed the point completely!

Make absolutely no mistake: Amick has been picked as George's public mouthpieces. Either someone in George's camp or George himself is feeding Amick deep inside info and the whole gist of the article is WAIT! Don't be the Knicks! George is coming, just clear up the room for him. George wants this bad.

I'm 100% now in the camp of not giving up ish. I'm not giving them anything. They can come at the deadline and get some scraps. My complete focus is on shedding salary, specifically Mozgov and Deng even if it takes protected picks.

I agree with some that George will be here if this is where he wants to end up. If it isn't a rental is only going to hurt. Pick Ball, let the young guys have their year and see what we got. The potential for such a special young group is worth a year to see who buys in and who doesn't. The most needed piece after Ball is a top notch defensive assistant. Going to be hard to see who is completely buying in if we don't have system in place. I don't believe all these guys, as athletic and hard working as they seem to be, can be bad defenders. It doesn't look like most have had defense drilled into them.

    Yep. With you 100% here.

Moz and Deng to go, though. That needs to be our main priority.
