It's clear he truly believes Lonzo (and other 2 kids I guess?) is going to be a great player in the NBA and can't keep the marketing of it in his pants.

Just heard while in car talk about it on mainstream KFI ..... likening this $500 shoe gambit for possible blowback toward the kid because of the old man, like LeBron got after being talked into "The Decision" show by his agent and agreeing to it.

I like the shoes, but not at that price.

I'm old enough to remember everyone laughing when the original Jordans cost $100 and everyone laughed. "Too expensive" "no one is going to spend that much on a pair of shoes."

if you want to see ugly overpriced shoes, look at some Yeezys that people fiend over.

They're collecting capital before production, so they aren't going to fail. What did that prototype and marketing video cost them? $10,000 tops? I'm sure they've received enough pre-orders in the first hour to break even.

Well if Lonzo can come to the NBA next year and succeed in having a great rookie year in spite of all the additional major hurdles his dad's created with the now really rough media memes and scrutiny, then this is a kid who is fearless and worthy of having the chance to be a franchise type player. And some demographic will buy the shoes. They already know how to put together polished marketing videos which will get even better going forward.

    If that's true, it's only 2000 shoes.

If he sells 10,000 shoes (are there 10,000 people in the world who are willing?) he'll make 5 million. If his son can play, I'm guessing he sells more than that. If his son can't play, he might not make more than 100K...

My understanding is rookie shoe deals are only worth about 1-2 million for young players. They've got a chance to beat that number. I don't know if he can beat it, but there's a chance.

    They've sold 200 shoes. 200 X 500 = 100,000. That's what was announced: 200 shoes. People were laughing, but I don't laugh at $100K in a couple days.

Now add in the shirts, shorts, hoodies. Probably 25,000 to 50,000 more.

Also reported that advertisers would have spent 5 to 10 million to get the exposure he's got so far, for free.

    Crazy like a fox.
