Lakers know they don't get deducted a win for losing by more than 50 points, right? Didn't need to sit D'Lo & restrict Ingram's minutes to lose in San Antonio, I assure you.

the really bad turnovers were back last night (ick). and his three point shot continues to be MIA, which has troubled me for a while.

on defense, he gets his hands on a lot of balls, which is good (and predicated on his savvy), but man, he still gets erased on basically every screen. just stops moving his feet. if i were his coach, i would be all over that. it's lame.

Russell's post ASB numbers are 18.7 points per game, 5.1 assists per game, and 3.0 rebounds per game, on 43% FGs, 36% threes, and 79% FTs. No per36.

The problem is he avoids the screen so he ends up bowing out away from the contact and it immediately puts him behind the play. He tends to lean instead of moving his feet too. You're right that he has pretty active hands. I think part of it is that we don't have a defensive minded coach on the staff and part of it is our guys just not really that willing to do the small things defensively. These kids all think defense is about the steal or the block.

I want to see Russell getting back to that aggressive mind-set. I want to remember what he looks like when he's got a chip on his shoulder. That ice-in-my-veins kid.

Is it fair to say Russell has improved just not as much as we hoped?

    Averaging basically 16 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 35 FG%, and 41 FG%.

What dissapoints me most is his terrible defense and inconsistent shooting.

Still his averages are more or less what I expected. With another year of seasoning and experience and hopefully more shooting around him I think he can get up to near 20, 5, and 5.

I think it's more accurate to say that he isn't the type of player that I thought he was.

We knew that Russell was an incredible talent with an effortless scoring ability and great court vision. And I thought he was a clutch player with "ice in his veins" that could carry us in big moments. However, what I learned this season is that he lacks the discipline and focus to carry a team in those crucial situations. Way too many disappearing acts and careless TO's. In fact, he's the last player that I want handling the ball in the 4th quarter.

Having said that, he's still a valuable asset with huge upside. He isn't the alpha prospect that Ingram is, but he can form a good 2a/2b beta duo with Randle.

He's been playing well. Even in his "off" games, he is doing a much improved job of staying engaged, competing, and fighting through adversity.

He's going to be a good player in this league. Great? That's up to Russell.
