I mean it's a bit early to say anything like that definitively about Ball or Fultz in the NBA. We've seen what we've seen, but it's possible it could work. Sometimes kids don't show their whole hand in college. Case in point: Randle was much more of a post player in college.

Still, it's definitely a question and (assuming we keep the pick) whichever kid I bring in to talk, I'm going to want to really delve into their mindset. It's one thing to want to be great, but are they willing to do everything it takes to get there. So far the only kids I know are willing to do that are Zubac and Ingram. It's possible Russell, Randle, and Clarkson figure it out but their learning curve has been a problem.

If you get Ball though, either Randle needs to be taking 3-4 threes a game and shooting 33% or you need to replace him. A starting five of Ball/Russell/Ingram/Randle/Zubac might be champs though... in 2023.

That's true. Or they might be the worst shooting, most matador team in history. Tons of potential there.

OK thanks, I'm ready to trade this pick, if we're fortunate enough to keep it.

I'm just going to reiterate this, but how many teams ACTUALLY have a two-way point guard?

While I agree that we need to pair Russell with someone more capable of defending, it's not like a lot of teams have a dynamic 1-2 pairing that are decent defensively. Boston and San Antonio might probably be that team, but they also have a good defensive scheme.

Defense from the perimeter is a team game. If we're going to blame Russell and Clarkson, we're blaming Ingram, Randle and Zu too. The rotations are slow, Randle's pick and roll defense is limited to switching, and Zu likes to sit back too much.

We need frontcourt players who are active, hedge out on screens to prevent penetration, box out, rotate to the next open player, cut off passing lanes. We don't have ANY of that, all we're doing is lazily switching everything because this team thinks small ball is the answer.

Russell has been very good post ASB; minus a few games.

Right now, it is just about getting consistent w/him...

Not worth the trouble with him mentally weak. See what he might bring as filler in a deal. Use to shed Deng's contract?

The problem is that D'Angelo and JC oftentimes don't even try to fight through a screen. They just lay on it. It's one thing to try to fight over a screen and fail like many PG's and SG's in the NBA do, but to just lay on it and give up too early is unacceptable.

Also, Tarik Black is better than Zu at P&R D, but he's not a good rim protector due to his shorter stature, so he ends up picking up fouls constantly on penetration. Would it be nice if we had a guy who could do both like Hassan Whiteside? Sure, but those kind of guys are hard to find, which is part of the reason why Mitch and Jim were talking to Larry Sanders before the all-star break. Hopefully, Zu can improve his hedging ability through physical conditioning in the offseason, but I'm not expecting miracles. Zu's all-around game can be forgiven with a few of his faults. Julius and JC's lack of defense and poor spacing on offense leave them as the "odd men out" IMO.

Since his 40 point game D'Angelo Russell is 33/87 (37.9%) after his 1/9 game today. He's also got 21 assists and 12 turnovers in the last three games.

This is the Russell we've seen the majority of the year and it's the one that frustrates the holy hell out of me.

No... Zu is not going anywhere... but we will end up with PG13.

:Kobe Snickering: .... I watched the game on time shift but just now was checking out the last of the Game Time comments and the very last from The Showtime Mamba.

No. His shot is frustrating, though. When he is making shots, he can keep up with mostly anybody; but when he is off, he is off badly.

It is a trend that I have noticed since Ohio St. It is correctable, though. I think his shooting mechanics are off, IMO.

This is why i wanted to see dlo attack the basket but seems like the only way his O is more balance is when he hits shots but when he misses he just settles for more jumpshots

His mechanics do seem off. If he isn't traded we should get him to work with a shooting coach this summer.

Our kids are broken, some way or another, except for Ingram and maybe Zubac.
