    Curry sort of started the trend. Also Curry didn't get into the league until he was 21 years old already. For the record, Curry did hit 7 threes once as a rookie, but he didn't do it again until his 4th year in the league when he was 24 years old and he did it 6 times that year (2012/2013). To be fair Curry was hurt most of his third year.

    Russell is well on his way towards surpassing Curry in attempts through the first two years. Curry cast up 722 threes through 154 games (4.67 per game). Right now D'Angelo is at 693 threes through 134 games (5.17 per game).

    Harden has games like that all the time. It's just he ends up with 30 points cause he went 21-22 fts.

    That's what happens when you have a fundamentally sound, competent center. 19 years old to boot. D-Lo's hockey assists were even more impressive and Randle finding Zu for those dunks was what the future will look like.

    I hate Simmons so I usually avoid the Ringer, but this is a really good article on Russell and how he provides both a unique positive and a serious potential negative. Basically what it boils down to is that the Lakers are finally moving forward putting Russell at the two which really only means pairing him with another play-making guard could be their future priority (Ramona agreed this morning on 710). That keeps Russell from thinking too much and helps alleviate the responsibility of the offense from his shoulders alone.

    However, D'Angelo is a really bad defender and Clarkson is worse. Even if the Lakers keep the pick, neither Ball nor Fultz project as big time defenders although both should be pretty good. Could we put Fultz or Ball or Clarkson on other teams' best guard to protect Russell? That's the question and it's a legitimate one.

    Russell will be fine at the PG position as soon as the Lakers get a star at the 2. It will open the perimeter and space things out better. I really believe we are being way too impatient. It took Steph Curry 5 years to reach superstar status. Same with James Harden. I know we want Damien Lillard but Lillard was a 4 year college player which helped him transition easier and you also have to understand he is in Portland where pressure is nil.

    The LA Laker pressure tends to expedite things too much. We were even doing this with Brandon Ingram 2 months in. Russell is a star in the making. Same with BI. Mitch and Co. have picked well in the draft and got the biggest steal last year in Zubac. Lakers now need to use their assets to bring in some established stars in key position. You do not get better by trading potential future for players that aren't Lebron, Durant or Westbrook types.

    Lakers have some work this summer. If they manage a top 2 pick again, i believe they will finally make a move to get an established star here, hopefully 2. If they can get one and drop Deng or Mosgov this summer, that would be a win too. But you guys really need to let D-Lo mature. The guy can ball.

    Good article. I agree with pretty much everything except his prognostication on Zubac.

    One could argue that he already is approaching elite shot blocker status. The problem is going to be his positional defense.

    The author obviously hasn't been watching Zubac that much. Which may be a good thing, since I don't believe the FO is looking to shop him around.

    I came in here to post this as well. Great minds & whatnot. :)

    Nice of The Ringer to take a break from their BostonSlurpFest.com routine to write an article on another topic. This was a good read. Nice to periodically get a gauge of the national opinion of the young players we watch so closely. Provides a solid barometer even if we don't agree with everything.

    it's funny how our agenda can shape our perception.

    i really read this differently. the author repeatedly mentions that russell's scoring mostly came on-ball, and he repeatedly refers to position-less guard play on offense.

    my main point has always been in rebuttal to those who claim we need a pg. i can see how someone who believes this would construe this article as support, but i don't see it that way at all.

    instead, i see it as a clear take on the poorly constructed rosters that result from years in the lotto. we have talented but misfitting pieces. imo, russell's the most-talented, so you jettison the others to fit around him (and ingram, who fits with anyone, in any style). russell's a harden type. so if you bring in another guard, make sure he can defend and make shots. if it's a pg-sized player, fine, he defends pgs. if it's a sg-sized player, fine, he defends sgs. but russell needs to be heavily involved in the offense, on and off the ball.

    i do think that russell's own quote regarding it being easier not having to make one pass, minimum, is interesting. but to me, that's on coaching and philosophy. i don't think steph curry has ever felt that pressure.
