Anyone else see he's starting to get used to the contact enough to get pissed off when he knows it's over the top and can have an edge to him now at times? Marc was or is said to have an "edge" to his game.
Bynum at 19 (second season) post all star http://stats.nba.com/players/tradit...r=-1&CF=AGE*LE*19&SeasonSegment=Post All-Star Zubac at 19 (first season) post all star http://stats.nba.com/players/tradit...r=-1&CF=AGE*LE*19&SeasonSegment=Post All-Star
Bynum had 2 Big Man camps by that time as well and Kareem for a tutor much as he wanted when Cap could still get around pretty good.
bynum's physical tools dwarf zubac's, imo. but zubac seems to have a better head on his shoulders. both have somewhat troubling injury histories. if zubac has a similar career to bynum, i'll take it. he was really good while the lakers had him under contract.
Isn't Zubac taller? I also think he's more nimble than Bynum. And a lot more coordinated and skilled.
I don't know about taller, but he definitely is not as long as Bynum is. He's more nimble than Bynum after 2008. Before 2008, Bynum was doing stuff like this. I don't see Zu doing that kind of athletic play too much, but I'm still stoked about what he can bring to this team in the future.
I think they're the same height, and I think Bynum was a seriously underrated athlete. He even had a high skill level. The knocks on Bynum were his knees and his attitude. I don't see the same foundation for a dominant player in Zu, but I see the clear makings of a Marc Gasol - who's really good.
No doubt Bynum was a beast during that stretch. But Zubac at 19 is a better player imo. He's not done developing athletically either.
He has a better understanding for and love of the game than Bynum did. But Bynum was more beastly for sure. Zu is a darned good player though.
At 19? Bynum averaged 8/6 with 1.1 assists, 1.6 blocks, and shot 56% from the floor. Posted a 15.4 PER and 0.7 VORP with 4.2 Win Shares. Zubac has a better PER. Everything else is lagging well behind. Zubac looks very good, but Bynum was special.
I don't disagree. Zubac had been playing professionally in Europe for several years before coming here, so he has a much more solid base of skills and an understanding of the game that Bynum didn't have at the same age. Bynum didn't really "get it" until his 3rd year in the league.
Learning experience for the kid. He'll be better for nights like this. Sometimes the refs don't like you, don't lose your cool, just try to do your business and affect the game whenever you can.
"Was given" or "earned"? Zubac has a dude in a suit and Tarik Black playing in front of him. Bynum had Kwame and Turiaf ahead of him in year 2. I don't like being put in the position of denigrating our young guys, so I'm going to bow out of this one. I really like Zubac, but Bynum was a game changer, and we all saw that. I hope to God Zubac can be that kind of player, mind you.
