what pelton seems to be implying is that ingram's college stats predicted he'd be quite good, but his rookie stats predict he'll be fairly bad. when the same basic model makes two opposite predictions about the same entity when pulling from two separate data sets, you fix the model or ignore it.

i really think most of these nba stat guys who don't work for teams are statistical hacks. they overfit models at best, and at worst (like ol' hollinger and many others), they arbitrarily tweak weights on predictors until the players they most favor end up at the top and then claim they've uncovered the formula for success.

anyway, don't get me started on the poor application of these stats to real life...

all that aside, we should be concerned about ingram's poor start. his shooting has definitely been worse than advertised (though trending up), and that's imporant for his intended position. he's also not very athletic (poor finishing, again, improving), but we knew that. on the other hand, he's shown pretty good instincts on and off (this is where randle struggles) the ball on offense and defense, a better handle than i thought, and he's competed physically at a higher level than i expected. i really think he'll fix his shot to the point that it's good enough to open up the game for his teammates, and that's all that's necessary.

but if you asked me if he'll be kawhi? doubtful. kawhi-lite? maybe. drafting a superstar takes all kinds of luck. ask hinkie, wherever he is.

I personally never expected Ingram to be a superstar but he was the clear cut #2 pick in the draft. There was a lively discussion with morons over at Leftisground actually thinking he was better than Ben Simmons.

What I do like about Ingram is he's a team player and a perfect fit to be "Robin" to Batman. I see him as a good all around contributor. At his peak I see an 18ppg 7 reb 4 ast 1 ball 1 stl a game. Maybe a Pippen light.

To achieve all this he needs to put in the work especially gaining weight.

He's a true winner who never gives up. He is committed. You have to give him that.

Gotta fix that outside shot, but...

He's been in double digits in five in a row, 7 of 9, and 10 of 15. I think it's remarkable for a player who A) weighs 100 pounds and B) can't shoot a three.
That 12.2 PPG he's averaging since the break would be first among first-year rookies. He's already leading such players in rebounds (actually tied with Zubac). And he'd be third in assists.

    Post- 12.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.89 steals, 0.67 blocks, 2.3 tos, 49.5 FG%, 20.7 3PT% (3.2 att. per game), 46.2 FT% (2.9 att. per game), 52.7 TS%

I'd like to see him be a lil more selfish..or aggressive. Instead of the 9-13 shots, get 17-18 shots up and get to the line a few times.

Big Z's not shy about putting it up, Clarkson sure isn't. Getting the minutes..show a few more things.

While I agree with you in some ways... every other kid is that way on our team. :D

It's nice seeing a kid that isn't selfish. You're right though. Ideally he'd shoot more.

I think Ingram has mostly been choosing his spots well.

I agree. It's nice having a kid who plays the right way and doesn't put himself before the team. He's the youngest guy, and his time will come. For now, he's picking and choosing his spots quite well, and he's being rewarded with big minutes for his play.

Don't eff that up and suddenly decide you are a one on one monster

As the team improves at ball movement and gets going in transition, he will have more high quality looks.

Ingram is one of the few players on this team that hasn't caused me to repeatedly curse at the television or punch myself in the head. For that he stands out.

Ingram, Zubac and Nance have become the only 3 players I want to see on next season's roster.

Wow I think we'd be selling so low right now to lose all that potential, even if it's frustrating the hell out of everyone now. Do what they're going to do but they're going to have to really pull something off to come out ahead on what we get back in a PG or Butler or (?) without gutting the lineup. Still would love to see at least up to the trade deadline next year most of these guys, only minus someone bringing us back a star. Let's give this new collective Lakers Borg presence in FO some time to see if they can reach the guys in peril either by motivation or fear of reality if necessary, and what they look like after this summer probably working out and practicing in the new facility. These guys have to be nuts to not want to kill to stay in the organization going forward with that as well. State of the art awesomeness.

Nice game from BI today, except for the 4 TO's. I liked the way he attacked the rim early. I think it's important for him to show aggression early, otherwise he tends to become passive.

Gotta give respect to BI, who has clearly elevated his game since the ASB. Another double digit game. That's six in a row for the rook.

He and Julius were the bright spots to a very, very dismal game tonight.

I like this kid immensely. I think he has a bright future ahead of him.

He's not on the untouchable list, but he's at the end of the available list.

Big minutes. He's in danger of dropping to 160 lbs
