Where's the heart? Lost his starting spot and didn't show up.

I said he has a fragile mentality, did not understand this move at all, it doesn't benefit us in any way. We already saw Russ benched last season, and how JC plays given the reins to the team.

Yeah; this is not how to handle Russ. Say what you will, but if you care about him as a player and want the most from him - you don't do this. Plus we looked like f***ing s*** without him. So...

DAR is only 19 or 20 guys, he's soo young. I wouldn't give up on him and his immense talent until he's 30.

JC shoots too much for me. Benching Russ for JC makes no sense.

Right. This made no sense unless it was strictly for tanking.

I mean... Byron made the same move. In fact Luke has said and done a couple of other things Byron did last year too. Benching Russell, talking about going into battle, calling the team soft...

This may not be the way to get to Russell, but maybe he feels like being easier on him wasn't working either. I don't know.

How about you shave your head and put on big boy pants instead of some clown millenial who kicks the ball out of bounds!

really glad i didn't watch that one.

and i'm with elgin and rodg: benching russell makes little sense. he's not the most egregious offender for most of what ails the team.

i'd have preferred that someone from the FO had a long sit down with him about his future here, emphasizing that he should play like he wants to be here if he does indeed want to be here. who knows? maybe that already happened and he didn't respond.

btw, given his physique and lack of focus, i wondered recently if he drinks/parties too much. wild speculation at this point, but i don't understand the move given the facts to which we have access.

good job losing by 28 to a sub .500 team, though!

I wondered about partying and drinking too honestly. Something off the court because this just seemed too drastic based off that poor performance when he had been playing well.

i've thought about it for a while. can't explain it; he just looks like a guy who might overly enjoy himself off the court. and it could explain inconsistency of all kinds. it would also make sense that the lakers would want to keep that in-house. that said, it would be difficult for him to be big on the party scene in la given the media. but maybe he just sits around at home gettin' drunk with the bros.

    again, i'm wildly speculating.

I feel like his focus is definitely off for some reason. Laziness? Everything I read is that he comes to the gym though. There's that chart that shows he works a reasonable amount even if he's no overachiever. I think it's just his mentality and the way he approaches things. He lacks urgency which can be good in pressure situations, but bad basically any other time.

What I like with Ingram is that you know basketball is coming first. I can live with the results of someone putting in their best. Kobe got all kinds of slack because you knew his occasional failings were temporary and not from a lack of effort.

How many hair styles have you seen Ingram have?

How many have you seen with D'Angelo?

Maybe it's a dumb or unfair question, but I'd say D'Angelo has always been more concerned about his public image than any of the other youngins. I think it's also why he tweets more, talks too much, etc.

He needs to be reminded and embrace the fact that when you put basketball first, the other stuff will take care of itself. Instead he's dreaming up his next ice in his veins celebration instead of watching film smh.

Well one thing people always forget is that these guys are VERY young. At 21 most people don't put life aside and focus on basketball.

Most of these guys has JUST started to make (SERIOUS) money. It is very natural to get distracted because they can finally do things they dreamed about their entire life. Girls are also a big part of their distractions because they probably date different girls weekly...also they come from some village to the new shiny Los Angeles with its beaches and sun...

Its a very fun and exciting but also very turbulent time. There is a reason why the NBA always has a handful of guys that put their life and soul into basketball and become greats. Its not easy.

I'm not defending the young guys but I'm saying looking for a Kobe replacement is a prime recipe to be disappointed. These guys need tutelage, constant mentoring but they also need to have that desire that you can't teach. There are some players where you instantly recognize that desire or lack of it and then there is a sea of players that you can't judge because they aren't extreme workers nor extremely lazy.

You would think the kids that come out of the draft early would be those uber focused types, but that is clearly not the case. Some have gotten there on working pretty hard, but being very talented. Add that to the scouting checklist of things to look for. You really need both if you are going to draft an immature player. At least get one who is putting in the work, and doesn't feel the need to tweet about it at midnight to prove it.
