    source of disagreement? if all russell is is a scorer, he's a bench player. his vision/scoring combo is why he was the 2nd overall pick in the draft. just one, and you're nick young or ricky rubio.

    i didn't think i'd have to do this: i compared russell to kobe because his teammates are f***ing awful at basketball. i'd have compared him to wilt chamberlain in this regard.

    you said you want to move russell off the pg spot, and i think there's simply no evidence suggesting this is a good idea.

    those guys aren't running pick and roll. they're catching off scramble or screen and drawing help-side d off the primary action initiated by the pg. again, if you want dlo spotting up off ball, trade him. now. yesterday. because nick young is better at it. james harden always played pg, really. so did dwyane wade.

    ilyasova would be GREAT for this team. hell, he was great for philly, who has forgotten how to win and thus traded him as soon as they started taking off. ibaka would be great at 1/3 his salary. but his low hoop iq would be shades of randle.

    if you're looking for a small pg this summer, i'll repeat: trade russell. he loses all advantage at the sg spot. he's undersized there, and he's really not accustomed to coming off screens and hitting (like nick young or kyle korver or an actual sg).

    i think you've pinpointed it. i get occasional bursts of energy that have continued this line of argument, but it's quite simple: i think that if russell's a sg, he needs to be coming off the bench. i think he's not a sg (at all) and that he's actually exactly what a current nba pg looks like. what doesn't look "current nba" is almost every other player on the lakers roster. if luke wants to run his system, russell's his pg. good luck finding someone else with the requisite skill set. it's going to be a lot harder than finding a jon leuer or two.


    edit: and people should know i wouldn't bother with these long quote strings and such if i didn't respect real. we just have a legitimate, fundamental disagreement here. i was hoping to persuade real to my side.

    Russell is very talented. He's had a nice two game stretch. I'm hoping he finishes the season strong...

    I spent 15 minutes writing a long post, but eff it. I think we both said our piece. We'll just have to wait it out and see. :Beertoast2:

    Back to D'Angelo and his performance lately: I'm glad to see him playing a more natural game. I didn't love his energy against San Antonio, but he put up an easy 18 points with efficiency. His natural ability is pretty obvious.

    Not sure if anyone saw this, but Dr. Robert Klapper (surgeon & apparent "hot take" sports radio host) went on a bizarre small Twitter rant about D'Angelo & Calderon yesterday after Jose was bought out:

    Klapper is a weird guy. He's somewhat useful for medical info, but even then he often talks down to the audience by oversimplifying stuff.

    He's apparently a brilliant surgeon, and he styles himself a kind of homespun philosopher, and a basketball expert. But, this is not the first time that he's given evidence that brilliance in one field does not automatically translate to other fields.

    He is a committed Lakers fan though. Props for that.

    Klapper really picked the wrong fight. Reading all the replies and stuff on twitter. LakersNation stood up and he got destroyed after this and rightfully so.

    He played a very good game. I'd say great game, but he left some easy points on the floor. A couple wide open shots and a fumbled pass from Julius. He had 12 points in the first, 3 in the 2nd, only 2 in the 3rd, and 6 in the 4th. I thought having Randle be the play initiator in the 1st really helped Russell find rhythm in that quarter. Those two seemed to be in sync.

    I think the Hornets played stronger defense on him after that. D"Angelo had 12/3 in the 1st quarter and then went 11/6 the rest of the game. I like that he was able to adjust offensively to what the defense was doing and get teammates involved. I wish he'd been more assertive in the 4th instead of letting Clarkson do what he wanted.

    D'Angelo's play since the All-Star break has been so much more fun to watch than what he was doing before. So much more comfortable.
