In that example, Ingram will mainly be playing as an off the ball SF. Our first unit is run by DAR, with Randle handling the secondary play making duties when we run our sets. We are trying to develop both those guys as well as Ingram. If Ingram is playing the majority of his mins with DAR and Randle he won't see as much of the ball - his mins need to be staggered with the second unit. That's why even in the games he has started during the recent run of injuries, he has been playing alot of mins, mainly so Luke can get him back in with that second unit. In the first unit he won't develop his playmaking ability as much, he probably won't get as many shots as he can with the second unit either.

On top of that, I'd be pretty sure when they were talking to Deng about coming here, they would of told him he'd be starting for at least a season, maybe even two and Luke strikes me as a guy who is very respectful of his vets.

Indeed I disagree about BI starting . I do expect BI playing more with DAR though ... in order to develop their chemistry and for BI to act as the second playmaker you're talking about .

I think he will be more useful in this role than as the primary shots creator

Giannis is currently probably the best player 21 or younger...even better than Towns.

Something interesting for everyone that may feel like Ingram should start so he can develop more:

Brandon leads all rookies with mins played per game at 27.1 mins (6th most mins amongst Rookies and Sophomores who have played a comparable amount of games).

He is also second at most minutes played overall for the lakers just behind JC (Julius is averaging a minute extra of playing time per game but has missed a few games).

Luke is doing a tremendous job as is, at giving Brandon the time needed to develop.

Luke is doing great with him. I just think he is better as a starter, regardless if he plays more minutes or not.

Lou and Jordan are taking the shots off the bench. Ingram starting can get more shots.

An update on Laker fans who either have or were ready to jump of the Ingram wagon already:

I actually don't think Ingram has earned any more shots. When you have one of the worst FG% in the league, you shouldn't take a huge chunk of your team's shot opportunities. Taking around 8-10 is enough right now.

Where he can continue to excel is defence and playmaking - which is better served with him being staggered with DAR and Randle.

I agree with you. I'm hoping with the right personnel around him, he may find better shooting opportunities. Coming off the bench with shooters like Jordan and Lou, Ingram should have great open looks. And yet he's got the 3rd worst FG% in the league. Makes no sense.

Its very puzzling why he sucks this hard at shooting the basketball in the NBA. Honestly, if you miss wide open shots, you miss wide open shots. Whether thats high school or NBA, it doesn't matter. The only explanation to me is that he doesn't handle pressure well. Tiredness can't be a reason because he was like this since the beginning.

Ingram doesn't seem to have a dominant personality who will impose his will on opponents.

His shot needs some major correction, his terrible FG% isn't going to change through the season .

He will have to work with a great "shot/skills" trainer this summer .

I always wonder what these players learn/do/work on before they become pros ...

Not a lot of competent coaches/trainers in high schools/colleges

his ball doesn't seem to have a lot of rotation on it, more of a put than a shot. that should be fixable, but not during the regular season.

In all the "look at his shot vs Durant's" images, he is holding the ball across his body, so he's shooting across his body a bit. It doesn't seem like a good idea, but I'm no shooting coach.

The thing is he has made shots in the past with the same shooting form. I have seen plenty of people make shots that look weird but go in...

It must be something else that keeps his percentages this low. It can't be just a hitch. If his shot was broken, Coach K would have been on top of it.

Except he maybe hasn't. College is 3 shorter, and he wasn't a great ft shooter in college.
