Same story from his days in college. Struggles against real competition. Still alot of growing to do.

I'd swap Russell for Wall in a millisecond.

not sure it was about the competition. he's just ice cold lately. he's making some great passes, and i thought he competed defensively. but his bread and butter needs to be his scoring ability, and he hasn't had it the past couple of games.

As do most young players, but yeah let's go ahead and act like Russell is the only 20 year old to struggle with consistency.

And let's not act like his game is well beyond his years. Because it's not. Like I said, still alot of growing to do.

MoFo needs to stop making lazy a** turnovers. That said .... not saying it is some huge problem for him to get over. And yeah ..... shoot more consistently.

Talk less. Practice more and harder. It's what ALL the great ones do if they really want it. (or have a career as a very good player) Worked for Kobe. Remember .... you saw him drop 60 in his last game after 20 years in the league. A whole lot of memory muscle psychological coordination going on there. No one hands you "Superstar". How hungry are you?

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about his development because so much of our future depends on Russell and Ingram. One of them needs to become a superstar, or at the very least, a perrenial allstar. This is Russell's 2nd season and he turns 21 in 3 months. If he doesn't break out this year, the chances of him reaching that star level is slim to none. By breaking out, I mean 17+ pts, 5+ ast, 45+ FG%, 35+ 3P%. Those numbers are pretty much a prerequisite for a modern-day superstar PG in their 2nd season. He needs to step it up, quickly.

He's around 15/3/4 now, but he'll get better.

It took Kobe his 3rd season to even get close to 20ppg with consistent minutes on a team that was ready to compete.

D'Angelo has the task of being a leader, scorer, and distributor on this team. It's going to take a bit of time for the team to gel and for him to be able to pick his spots.

Exactly. It takes some guys till that second year. Some their third. Heck Steph wasn't considered a "star" till around 2013 which was like his fifth year in the league.

tada's got a point. though karacha pointed out that russell isn't actually that far off the pace right now. and that's considering that he's had a couple of really off shooting games. i expect those to be more anomalous (as i posted earlier). if they aren't...time to worry.

Completely different circumstance with Kobe, who was drafted at age 17, earning his minutes behind a proven allstar in Jones.

Which existing PG's are most similar to Russell in terms of their games? How about CP3, Irving, Curry, and Lillard. Those guys are superstars or perennial allstars. Check their rookie or 2nd year stats and come back with a better excuse of how Russell can have a lackluster season and still find a way to reach their status. This year is crucial and there's little room for doubt.

Time to worry... if you're an impatient person.

Think about Chauncey Billups. He was a journeyman before he even became a consistent starter, then all star and eventual finals MVP
