I never said the kid was gonna be elite just because he's a superstar. I'm looking at his talent, his ability, his potential, his work ethic, how he already has improved and progressed as Luke has alluded too. I also never denied that he's not ready to be immediately great right away. Why do I need to temper my expectations? It's just my opinion on this player. I don't need to temper anything. I fully expect Ingram to be great as I expect Russell to be great. They have the talent and ability to play at a high level that I don't believe anyone else on this team does. There have been plenty of elite players at the number two selection, in the top five, even beyond that, and I don't see why I shouldn't expect Ingram to be an elite player. I've seen nothing from him to think he can't be. Not quite sure why you're saying I'm expecting Ingram and Russell to be Star players because they're Laker players. Those words never came out of my mouth. I expect them to be big time stars because of how they've progressed and because of their skill set.

But that should be an expectation, im not saying if they live up to those expectations they're automatically bust but that should be a genral expectations of top picks. If they're not stars but merely #2s or 3s and integra part of the teams success its still a win just not living up to expectations

but if evidence shows how rare it is for these players to becomes stars, how on earth should that be the expectation? those top picks are based on potential and hope; not expectation. expectations should be based on fact and evidence.

So we should just expect top picks to me avg role players? If thats the case why value top picks at all?

Exactly. I've never understood the fascination with draft picks. Yes, if you nail one you're set, but odds are that a vet min is going to outperform most 1st rounders in a given year.

The difference between hope and expectation is important.
