Yes, and it's not an overreaction because of today's game. Zubac has played professionally already in Croatia, even though he didn't get to show off his skills and play as much those skills and things he picked up over there isn't taught in AAU leagues in the US. At 19 years old Bynum was very raw, but with loads of potential. Zubac is raw as well but clearly has the higher skill level, fundamentals.
When I say poorman's I mean current Okafor against prime Al Jefferson. Either way, I think zubac has potentialy a much much bigger impact than him.
Zu is 19, I think Bynum was only 17 or 18 when he played his first NBA game. It's only on his 3rd year that we saw how good he could be and then he got injured. Bynum was 19 or 20 by that then. We'll have to wait some time to know how far Zu is from 3rd year Bynum.
If Zu was more explosive off the floor, he'd be a Top 5 draft pick. I'm really crossing my fingers that he puts in the work in the weightroom over the next few years. As for the comparisons to Bynum at age 19, I'm willing to pump the brakes a tad bit. Bynum averaged 13 and 10 as a 19 year old vs NBA competition. However, I do like Zu's upside.
Yeah. 19 y/o Bynum averaged 8/6 on 56% shooting. Zubac looks better than Bynum did as a rookie, but at the same age, it's a tall order to be better. We shall see.
great timing on the blocks. he's obviously not much of an athlete, but it doesn't matter because he's smart and has that knack for anticipating the ball's release. i'm still trying to temper my expectations, but there is some marc gasol there. as i said before, he really doesn't have those ball skills, but just being that big, smart, and with good hands and soft touch...he can be a good one down the road.
He said he's basically never lifted weights in his life too so while he'll never be Dwight Howard, there's a chance he can be more explosive than we've seen thus far.
That's cheating Ras. That's like saying Ingram is a rich man's Tayshaun Prince but only today's Tayshaun. Okafor in a couple of years is likely to be much better than Al. I like Zubac and I think he's got tremendous upside but I'd like to see him play NBA guys first before saying he'll be better than Okafor.
I'm not saying he's going to be better, but I'm higher on Zublaca than Ingram because I kind of knew what we would be getting in Ingram and that his game would translate, but Zubac was a total surprise. I couldn't be happier with a 32nd pic in the 2nd round.
There is no doubt that this kid will be - in the worst case - a solid NBA center for years to come. If he can stay healthy, of course.
I suppose that if you think of position drafted and payoff, Zubac doesn't have nearly as much to do in order to be a steal. If he's a career 9/6 guy for a decade, he's a giant steal. If Ingram averages 15 points per game for his career, he's a disappointment. So, I'm with you. Very high on both guys, think Ingram will be better, but it will be tough for him to be a better pick given draft position.
Zubac - what a surprise. His mobility is far better than I was thinking. His conditioning has been praised by his coach. His ability to block and alter shots without fouling looks very good. His touch around the rim is excellent. His vision and passing seem underrated. He's making good passes, but teammates aren't finishing. His hands look soft and reliable. It's time for me to start revising my thoughts on him. I want to see him in preseason, against a higher level and % of NBA talent, but his SL performance was a huge, pleasant surprise.
