Funny thing is - Zu can fill in that Lee/Bogat/Speights/whatever role. If we have a young Bynum on our hands - I am sure Luke (who saw it first hand) will know how to utilize him. Also... this is what Bynum looked and what he became (that is a span of 3 years or so EDIT: 5 years, but still...):
Was hoping he could break the blocks record, but Utah was having none of that and started shooting outside which unfortunately went in or getting fouled
Mitch hit a Grand Slam with this kid. I'm sure a lot of GMs are kicking themselves after seeing him in SL.
In his postgame interview he said he's gonna go home for a week then come back and work on his body and shooting
I missed the first quarter and a half, but boy is this kid impressive. I mean seriously there's a lot of room to grow, but he has all the potential in the freaking world. For those of you who don't know: I love a good big man. I wanted Okafor because I'm 100% biased for a big man with skill. This kid might never be Okafor in the post, but he doesn't have to be. He can be amazing in his own right doing his own thing and because he's bigger than Okafor he can have a different kind of impact on a game. Amazing job by the scouting department to get this kid where they got him. I remember after the draft the guys from DraftExpress were in love with our draft saying we got the best prospect in the draft AND maybe the steal of the draft in Zubac. Their endorsement was all I needed to hear. I love that crew and I love our draft.
Another Zublocka party tonight. It is summer league, but even so he's way more polished than I thought he would be. He has touch around the rim, good hands, a nice 15 foot shot, a real post game, blocks shots, we got a heck of player with the 32nd pick. He's not gonna come in and look amazing against real NBA competition, but give him some time and he will adjust.
Yeah.... if the draft was held today - he doesn't slip past Magic at 11th. Poetl and Sabonis... He might just be better than both. Had he played US college ball, he'd be 1 year older and be top 10 or so next year. Excellent.
Great call. I'm not sure Poetl is better than Zubac. Poetl put up 7/7 with 1 assist and 2 blocks. Zubac: 10.6/7.2 with 0.2 assists and 2.6 blocks. Poeltl is a year older with a year of NCAA play under his belt.
I think he can be a lot better than okafor. His post game isnt as polished yet but he's more mobile and 10x the defender that Okafor is.
I wont go that far. Okafor is more mobile than people give him credit for. I'm not sure Zubac is more mobile than Okafor although off the top of my head I doubt it. I certainly wouldn't say he can be a LOT better, but he can impact games differently and that impact could make him a better team player. Individually though Zubac will have some time to catch up to Okafor as Okafor is a guy who averaged 17.5/7 in the NBA and I'm not sure Zubac can do that tomorrow. I'm an Okafor fan, but I'm glad we have Zubac/Russell over maybe something like Okafor/McCaw.
^ Well thats where we differ. I'm not high on Okafor. He's a poor man's AL Jefferson. He may get his numbers but without any defense his impact is minimal. Game is played on both sides.
