For his age, not practicing and being from overseas, he looked great tonight. His defensive presence was most impressive, even if it was just SL..... ZUBLACCCAAAAAAAA
This kid was awesome in game 1. Polished in the post already, got a hand on so many rebounds, tipping them to teammates and on the offensive boards tipping them even if not controlling them. And on D, block party, that one play in the 1st quarter he swatted a dude twice in a row. He might not be quite ready for the speed of real NBA games yet, but the potential is absolutely there. You have to be impressed with this one, especially considering he didn't even really practice this week.
^LOL, i can picture him saying that. This dude looked a lot more ready then we all thought. Clogged up the paint, blocked shots, nice touch around the rim.
I noticed some of the Pelican guards driving into the lane started to look where Zubac is. There were at least three instances where he made them hesitate. Get that weak sh*t out of here! One game...much promise.
Like I said in the gameday thread, he was the one that impressed me the most. Absolutely. I remember saying over and over that he wouldn't be ready right off the bat, but boy did he make that statement look silly. He's not going to be ready against NBA level guys tomorrow, but he looked fantastic. It wasn't just the effective post game, but he was a great help defender. He was only credited with 5 rebounds, but he had multiple plays where he kept the ball alive. He was only credited with 3 blocks, but he absolutely controlled the paint. I love this kid.
Yeah...and he's a riot off the court too. Zubac will have to do some serious body work to keep up. He is just 19? Damn... The instincts are there. I agree where Zubac did tip drills to direct the rebounds to his teammates.
He's got some Marc Gasol to his body and I don't mean that exactly in a good way. I don't know that we can work off all that baby fat this summer, but I'd like to strengthen him up for sure.
Agree...but Zubac does not have the burly physique of Gasol at least to me. You of anyone here would probably see that. Get Zubac to do some strength training, muscle build and ease off the comedy monologue.
He's got a similar frame actually. He's not exactly a meatloaf and he's got a solid frame to build on. The crazy thing is despite his prodigious height, he's also got ridiculously long arms. He's not likely to build up beef like say Karl Malone with those long levers, but he can definitely get stronger. My favorite part is how much meat he has in his lower half. His one thigh is probably the size of Ingram's whole waist. If we can get him in the gym working on his squats, deadlifts, and lunges he can learn how to distribute his weight and can even gain some explosiveness. Not a lot mind you, but enough to put a couple guys on a poster maybe. Enough to hopefully protect him from too much harm.
ZublockaaaaaaAAAA!!! Love this kid so much already. Great paint presence on both sides of the floor already! And his personality is just so fun. Most impressed with him tonight.
