That's fine. As GT pointed out, we'll get 2 good years out of him; if he has a Artest like production fall off from a couple of years ago, there is the amnesty provision. No big deal.

I'm still happy we got him, but when we're trying to construct a team in 4 years and have a 35 year old back-up making $20 million, we're going to be upset.

Well, I guess at worst he's an expiring contract in year 4 if he does a super decline. I still like the move for a lot of reasons unpossibl1's article pointed out. Lets Ingram develop with less pressure, adds a great veteran to the locker room.

Its important to have a good vet in the locker room, its worth it for the young guys. Now can we get rid of Young officially already...

A nice suprise this morning to see Luol "The Deal" Deng signed to the purple and gold.

It would be interesting to see what would have happened if we had signed Deng before Mozgov in terms of the negative press.

Would like to see an offer made to Wade at the max for two years. He still has some juice (and possibly HGH) that allows him to contribute.

Do you guys think Luol is better than Ron when we signed him in 2009? I believe Luol is a year older than Ron was. Ron had a solid first season and obviously was huge in the Finals, but really fell off after that. Hopefully we get more years out of Luol.

I don't think they are comparable. Ron was a bully ball old school scorer, never super efficient at scoring even though he got the job done, not really a guy you ever felt comfortable dribbling the ball much. He was more of a defender. Deng is taller, longer, more versatile, a better shooter. His game is the type where I think he can still be effective even as he ages as it was never based on athleticism, he's skilled. Ron averaged more points before he came here in '09, Deng averaged better all around stats besides points, but then Ron was maybe the Rockets #1/2 option, Deng was 3rd/4th? Totally different players, but I think both deals will be worth it, Ron got us a ring, Deng will make us better, and help with Ingram's development, be a locker room leader.

Deng is our attempt at Iguodala. That's the best way to describe it. A guy who is past his prime perhaps, but plays smart and teaches the young kids how to win games in the NBA. Their play on the court will be different, but their role on the team is the same.

It would be crazy if someone on CL joked back in 2007 that in 2016 Deng would be a laker.

Artest was offensively inconsistent because he never had the same amount of opportunities with 24, Gasol, Odom and Bynum having the shots. He was brought in to embody toughness and defense which he provided. Deng won't have the same problem on offense here since Russell will look to set him up and defensively he is still game. I think he will not shy from taking the big shots along with being a calming influence on and off the floor. Given good health, I see Deng providing more than adequate support and production at least three years without taking away developing our young core.

Yeah honestly I love this signing and don't really care about not having a team option. I would've liked it, but this guy is gonna be a great veteran for us. He's about the best mentor for not only Ingram, but all the guys. There is a reason why the Lakers wanted Deng so badly way back when Kobe was demanding a trade.

I've always respected Luol's game. He competes. Everywhere he's gone they sing his praises and rightfully so. No non sense guy. When the young guys are not doing something right he's gonna be in their ear. When they do something well he's gonna be the first guy giving them praise.

People talk about teams like San Antonio and OKC. Their culture is among the best of the best. They have high character guys. Guys who buy in. Don't complain. Play as a team. Like going to work with each other. Deng is gonna help us work towards that.

What Luol does on the court for us just makes it a great fit. How many times was our defense compromised because Kobe just couldn't stay in front of his man? I love Kobe and it wasn't his fault, but Luol is gonna be able to stay in front of his man. I'm not sure I've ever seen the guy take a bad shot. He's so unselfish.

No Deng does not shoot a great percentage, but he's not gonna get in the way and ruin spacing. He'll relocate to the ball, when guys are in trouble when being doubled he'll cut hard, he'll hustle and get loose balls and fight for extra possessions. He won't gamble unnecessarily. He won't overcommit and double when he shouldn't. He's just a really smart player. Just those little things that really aren't little are what makes Deng such a solid player.

Good signing. A little overpaid, but that's the tendency now. Now need to sing a 3-pt shooter off the bench)))

My problem with Deng is that he is a stretch 4 more than a 3, definitely now at this age.

He is too slow and clumsy to be a wing player. Sadly, at PF we are pretty much set. Ya he is a veteran bla bla bla...so is Mozgov...

but when you have 60 million salary room and your best effort is Mozgov and Deng, thats a fail in my book. Sorry.

I might add...I like Deng. I think its a good signing. But overall Deng and Mozgov...thats a lot of wasted cap on players on the decline. Bismack was there for 72 mio. and even though ridiculous, its for a 23 year old energetic defender. Definitely worth the money over Mozgov.

Cool dude over here supporting the Sparks already. I think someone on the other team was a native of his country too so that probably had something to do with it, but still cool to see him already involved.
