same. the venom is funny, but i don't really get it. they look like other basketball shoes. is it just the all-white? that's easily fixable.

I loved Steph's response to the "pile on" of his new shoes in the post game press conference of Game 4. Good sense of humor. Here it is if anyone missed it:

No they don't, but I don't see how you make the case he's struggled. Numbers don't lie. Steph has been great. He has had a few off games coming back from injury, but overall he's been superb. He was great against Portland. Sensational the final two games against OKC and pretty good outside of Game 1 in the Finals. If that's struggling give me that guy any day of the week and I'll win big.
Steph has not been great. He's got the same kind of empty stats LeBron has been accumulating. His lone great performance was Game 4. If the Finals ended today Draymond or Klay is the MVP probably.
It's clear the injuries sucked the juice out of Curry, because in game 1, where he got injured against the Rockets he scored 24 points in 20 minutes, and look how effortlessly the shots were flowing... It's been downhill from then on out. His tentative play and poor defensive lapses as well as turnovers imo is him fearing exaggerating his injuries even more. That's probably why he pulled out of the Olympics as well.
Empty stats lol. You don't average those kind of numbers with empty stats. Steph was phenomal in the biggest games of the year. Game 7 against OKC. 4 and 5 against the Trailblazers. Game 6 against OKC. He had like one bad game in this series.
Yeah saying "lol" is a terrific argument. That's the definition of "empty stats" actually. In Game 4 LeBron James had 25/13/9 which is basically what Curry is averaging. Do you think James really impacted the game positively? He also had 7 turnovers and a -12 plus/minus. So James did exactly what you said cannot be done. None of those games are in the Finals, which is what we're talking about. And the fact that you can cherry pick which games were great proves that he hasn't been consistently great. If he was consistently great, you know back-to-back MVP and unanimous MVP great, then you wouldn't be able to just say which games he was great in. If anything you'd point at the games he wasn't great in. He hasn't been consistently great since before his injury against Houston. Untrue. Game 1: 11 points/5 rebounds/6 assists/5 turnovers; 4/15 FG, 3/8 from 3PT; -1 +/- Game 3: 19 points/1 rebounds/3 assists/6 turnovers; 6/13 FG, 3/9 from 3PT; -22 +/- Game 5: 25 points/7 rebounds/4 assists/4 turnovers; 8/21 FG, 5/14 from 3PT; -6 +/- So more than half the games in this series have been sub-par. I think he's had more than like one bad game in this series. I like Steph Curry, but that doesn't mean he's above reproach or criticism.
Superstars usually "struggle" in the Finals shooting wise unless your name is Jordan ( 91-93) or Shaq . Tough D , pressure , fatigue ...
yeah, people used to blast kobe for it, but if you look it up, pretty much every star's stats suffer in the finals. makes sense, as teams are trying to take those guys out of their game, and your opponent is probably pretty good at that point. i do think that curry isn't hitting shots i would expect him to hit, and i think he's getting rattled by cleveland's intermittent half-court pressure in ways i wouldn't have expected. when cle blitzes him at midcourt, that should lead directly to a bucket. it's led to turnovers or general disruption of the offense more often than dunks, and that's why they keep doing it. curry's better than that. but again, i think he's hurt and wouldn't be playing if these weren't the finals.
it's not just the shooting % though. when Kobe didn't shoot well he still carried the team in other ways. Game 7 of 2010 is the perfect example. In these Finals, Curry has really only positively impacted the game when his shot is falling. otherwise he hasn't really contributed much. I'm a huge Curry fan, but i'm with TRD on this one. the only game where Curry looked like the best player on the floor was Game 4.
He has definitely had an opportunity to quiet critics in these playoffs following his unanimous MVP, but for whatever reason that hasn't happened. Instead, for the second year in a row, the league MVP most likely won't get the Finals MVP or be the MVP of his team. It is probably unprecedented, and he'll naturally take some heat for it. Not coming up big, not being the prototypical physically dominant athlete, the public appearances/comments by family, The ill received shoes, etc. Hasn't gone near as well as it could've, that's for sure.
I agree that Curry hasn't been playing well (for his standards), but he doesn't necessarily need to shoot to positively impact the game. His presence alone opens up so many opportunities for his teammates. His "gravity" (as some are calling it now) is insane, and when he's running around those screens, Cavs have to make quick decisions on how to react and defend him, which can open up a lot of mismatches. There have been a lot of open shots for his teammates as a direct result of Curry's presence. Some stats that favor Curry: Curry leads all Finals players in hockey assists. He leads the Warriors on points generated from driving to the hoop. He has the second highest +/- of all starters (behind only Draymond). But yea, I agree that he's been disappointing (probably injured). I hope to see some of that Curry magic though in the next game.
