Great find YTC. I knew the offense was a Triangle/Motion-Weak amalgamation but it's great seeing it broken down piece by piece like that. Awesome.
Here's that Coach Nick guy breaking it down even more. I'm not a huge fan of his videos, but replace Lee/Bogut with maybe Randle/Horford and Curry/Klay with Russell/Clarkson. Tell me that we can't approximate this offense with our personnel. Tell me our guys couldn't do this, I dare you! All it takes is willingness to buy in and I think our guys will do it. You guys really should check out Thundercat's links too. Really gets me pumped up for what we're getting next season.
Thanks for the shoutout! I generally like Coach Nick, but his stuff can be really hit or miss sometimes
No sweat man that was a great post. I seriously cannot watch enough of those videos. It's getting me so amped up for what we're doing next season.
Read that Hollins is a strong candidate to be Silas' assistant in Houston if they don't go with MDA. We should throw serious coin at him to be our defensive coordinator.
I remember watching those coach Nick videos a year and a half ago because I was upset that the Warriors fired Jackson. Basically - Kerr came in and cleaned up that offense NICE. Summary for those who didn't watch the video: spacing, spacing, spacing, less dribbling and stagnant iso for Curry, tons of off-ball screens, more klay initiating the offense, several sets for Curry to shoot off the ball, putting players in the right spots on the floor with legitimate triple threat options (pass, shoot, drive). D'Angelo ain't no Curry, Clarkson ain't no Klay, and Julius ain't no Draymond but they're not scrubs either. Add Ingram and a FA and if we're able to replicate a lot of this stuff, we might see some real improvement this season. Exciting stuff guys.
I think what makes the offense so special is that the weakside is so active as well. As these kids grow and understand the offense, you cannot fall asleep even for a moment. The weakside will just back cut and get a wide open layup while you're worrying about Russell or Clarkson coming off a screen. Watching that video makes me really, really want Horford or Noah in there. Having a big man that can pass the ball makes this offense soooo smooth. You know who would kill in this? Pau. Pau would look like Hakeem in this offense. A young Pau would be a triple-double threat in this offense. I see Randle doing a great job in that post spot when they run the Triangle action and the cuts off of that. The length and size of D'Angelo and Jordan will help tremendously defensively. Oh my gosh... I can't. It's going to be so much fun. Even while they grow it'll be great seeing the wheels turning and knowing which direction we're headed.
Yeah the weakside action is crucial. Not to mention how everything flows in rhythm. I agree that having a passing big man is crucial and is kind of the final cog in their elite offense. I'd take Noah over Horford on the price point and because I think Noah is a better rim protector. Horford is younger and can space the floor better but if we can get Noah and batum/Barnes/DeRozan and move Clarkson to the bench.....not only are we offensively elite but the defense is potent too. Yes Pau would be great - and he'd be pretty darn familiar with the system because it'snot THAT different than the stuff they ran in the "Triangle". I actually wouldn't mind Pau but I think he's ring chasing.
Another nice video with breakdowns of sets. God I'm so excited. We may not have Klay, Draymond or Steph, but it's still gonna be lightyears ahead of that 4th grade intramural crappie Byron was running.
It's funny - friends I would talk to compared D'Angelo's playing style to James Harden. Lefty, crafty dribbling, awkward but finesse finishes at the basket, not elite athletically. While all that's true I see some Curry in him too. Quick release 3's, solid mid-range jumper, but most importantly the way he would move off the ball. There's no reason he can't be Steph-lite with a better post-game and better passes.
