I think Bickerstaff might be added to the staff; apparently, Houston wants to elevate/promote him to the FO, but Bickerstaff doesn't want to accept that position. He wants to coach. Well, come on down.
Or infinitely better than Scott could. I like this. Between a 7 hour interview and daily communication, Luke is going to be in the loop and get a club he's comfortable coaching year one.
I feel like there's just too much good news happening lately since we fired Boron and hired Luke. I feel like this whole season was such a nightmare and now we're just beginning to reap the benefits with all these great quotes from Mitch, Luke and Jim. I feel like for the first time in 5 years, everybody is on the same page. Everyone is working towards the same goal. I have no idea what happened in that 6-7 hour interview....but there was definitely some magic in the air. I think Jerry Buss was in that room. Something special happened that day. I think the Lakers are finally back on track and we will be back to winning championships with Luke/Mitch/Jim regime in place. We have all hated on Jim for quite some time, but maybe he's not as stupid as we thought. I really did NOT have faith in Jim or Mitch and thought they were incompetent enough to keep Boron around for one more season and this narrative of giving him one more year was really scaring me. Jim and Mitch showed me that they're smarter than we thought....and firing Boron and hiring Luke all in ONE WEEK gave me confidence in this front office once again. It just feels good to get confirmation on EVERYTHING we were thinking all year regarding Boron and the direction this team SHOULD take. I'm very pleased with everything I'm hearing, and I'm confident we are going to have a great summer. Also, a great summer doesn't necessarily mean we are getting KD. It just means that we signed a few guys that will help our team both now and in the future, and we maybe even make some strategic trades with the assets we have. Either way, I'm happy with the direction of our squad for once in a LONG time. Lots of people are still hating on the Luke hire....but I think it was the most no brainer hire that I've seen in a while.
Let's not forget Jeanie's crucial role in all of this resurgence of hope within the fan base .....as the top Lakers executive.
So the great news from the conference is that we're likely to move forward with Luke's coaching staff fairly quickly. Mitch made it sound like the Lakers had already contacted a few people. He also made it clear that they're looking for former head coaches who can help Luke smooth things over.
