yeah, at least as a backup. i've mentioned pappagiannis before, and there are probably others like that who look ready for a shot (or, in that case, another shot).
Lol saw the thread alive and came here to write exactly that. He's not dead. And can be a spicy expiring by the deadline if we need. Until then, he's exactly the type of guy who can give 10-15min of a stretch 5 JJ seems to like. If he's still good, we have a decent backup for the PO. If he's washed, great trade assets by the deadline
Kleber covers PF and C. He'd be a tremendously helpful player if he was healthy and at the level of a season or two ago. He probably replaces Vando in the playoff roster and allows us to play a switch kind of defence quite well, while still being a decent shooter.
he's just never healthy anymore. and i think it's taken a cumulative toll. if kleber from three years ago showed up, jj would be thanking the good lord, but i don't think he's walking through that door. if he ends up on the roster to start the season, i could totally see him helping out when guys are hurt, though.
To be fair, a broken foot isn’t a breaking down injury, it’s usually a, that was an unfortunate incident injury. So you’re generally optimistic they heal well.
Maxi's career numbers, are rather mediocre aren't they? He's a big that shoots more 3's than 2's. He had a 3 season run in Dallas, where he was decent on the boards. He was pretty mediocre in that regards, for his last 3 seasons there too tho. https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/klebima01.html
Is that supposed to make him more effective? If he put up similar numbers here, he'd get crucified. 12M is a nice chunk of change.
He's not a numbers guy. Not flashy at all. He's just a smart player, holds his own on defense, makes the right play and can shoot a bit, stretching the offense. Ideal 8th guy in a contender team, if he's healthy
More impactful than another big that can board, or a perimeter defender with some length? I'm still looking at that contract, on a vet minimum, sure keep him.
I remember how well he played Kawhi, Batum, Morris and Covington a few seasons ago. Then in their final WCF run, he was a sharp shooter 43% with great defence in the playoffs. In their finals run, he was shooting over 55% and then got injured. If he was healthy, they give Boston a better run. He was excellent as a bench guy. Do you expect every rotation player to have eye popping stats? There's a reason why teams win when they have players like DFS and Kleber. Players who know their role, and do the dirty work. We need more of that.
We don't have roster spots and we are still lacking at least a POA defender and maybe a defensive wing. I don't think we will have four centers in the 15-man roster. If we trade Maxi, maybe someone else comes but even in that case, I think we need more another guard and wing rather than a 3rd center. We may do some consolidation trade, but I'm sensing that may only come mid-season, where the expirings hold more value. It's also smart to hold on to these assets and be ready for anything that may happen during the season, we have contracts to get any guy up to 40 million, so there's plenty of opportunities.
No I do not...but after seasons of injuries, and aging..I don't expect most role players, to ever get back to that level of success, that caught our attention either. Im just being pragmatic about it, it doesn't really happen that much. What you do see, is higher level guys, that turn into solid role players, more frequently later in their careers. Those guys that you named, are all pretty much done now, aren't they? Kwai was a high end talent, he's not a normal NBA player. In that Finals run Maxi avg 4pts and 2 rebs..I posted the link to his stats. He had 1 good game against the Clippers. For 12M? No..I'm looking in another direction. That's all I'm saying, on a vet min?..maybe The DFS and Kleber's of the world are absolutely replaceable. 7 consecutive teams have now won a NBA title. They all had guys like that, we aren't talking about the same group of guys, that continually filled those roles. It's the NBA..they can all hoop, and fresh blood comes into the League every season.
Where are the guard and wing going to play? We already have Vincent, Goodwin, Bronny, a new rookie, Knecht and now this new guy, let alone Austin, Rui,Vando,Lebron, and now Ayton. Of course some of these guys are going to get moved. No we won't have 4 centers, but we may have 3, and I don't think Kleber will be one of them.
You’re a smart guy Slick. I know you know the value of a timely 3 from a role player. Whether it turns the momentum, creates or extends a lead or stops the bleeding. Those are the kind of 3s that Maxi the against the clippers. He shot 55% from 3 before that injury in the playoffs. He also played good defense. I don’t think he’s the same guy anymore, and I don’t think he’ll be here on opening night. But if he is, I’ll be rooting for him!
I do get it bro, but like I said..at that salary, I'd just rather go, in a different direction. Kleber and Shake, matche Mathurin's contract for instance. He just happens to be a young guy, I like currently. Yet it's not a matter of Mathurin or bust, by any means.
