My picks for the winners. I missed Friday's but oh well. Booker for the Skills challenge. Klay, again, for the 3pt contest. Derrick Jones for Slam Dunk East wins the ASG MVP Kyrie.
The Earth is too flat for the Kyrie to win MVP. I'll go West with Westbrook as MVP. Wall for skills challenge. Klay for 3 ball Gordon for Dunk
The past few days have been so boring. Half the stadium is filled. TV coverage is awful, way too many commercials. Hopefully the game isn't one big layup line.
I haven't watched any of the All-Star weekend. Well I was at a bar and it was on in the background so I saw Porzingis beat Boogie and Davis in the Skills competition, but that's it. I've heard it's been bad.
Dunk contest was weak. #pt shootout was ok. Skill is what it is. Funny to see 7'2 KP win it. I don't watch the rookie or celeb games.
Tuned in here and there... Gordon did not look to be in it. Flubbed his dunks, appeared uninspired at times. Maybe because Lavine wasn't there.
The commentators were saying Gordon did not have the spring on his step. Maybe he did not want to participate but was pressured into it. Marketing... I've liked the duel Gordon has had with Lavine in the contests. Just pure athletic talent with no props.
Hopefully the ASG will be a good one. Off the top of my 01, with the very undersized East coming back to win, and the 03 last MJ, 2OT thriller.
I went back and watched the events from yesterday. Three point contest was crap except for the final/OT. The skills challenge was boring, but it's always going to be. The dunk contest was extremely weak. I wouldn't say the weakest, but definitely a huge let down after last year's.
The dunk contest has become a farce with all the props such as the stupid drone and continuing to line up props and people to jump over. IMHO.
I don't mind jumping over people. That's legitimate athleticism. I do mind the props being so completely and openly advertising. Some guy on the radio this morning said that the dunk contest jumped the shark when Blake Griffin jumped over a car for a commercial and won the contest. I agree with that, but it's not like it can't come back. The dunk contest last year was amazing. The drone dunk this year was stupid and I felt like I was watching a commercial when it happened. Marv Albert or whoever was doing the commentating was talking about the company that makes it and all this other crap. It was offensive to me.
To me, the best thing yesterday was the fund raiser shooting to raise money for Craig Sager. Could hear how much he meant to Ernie when the check was presented.
I missed that, John, because I don't give a f*** about the weekend, but I'm going to go watch that now.
@trodgers here ya go http://www.si.com/nba/2017/02/18/craig-sager-strong-foundation-three-point-shootout-stephen-curry And near the end of this one, the check presentation and Ernie getting choked up: http://www.nba.com/video/2017/02/18/tnt-honors-craig-sager-all-star-2017
