I think Magic knows deep down Byron sucked as a coach. Just didn't wanna admit it publicly. Glad he's gonna work with D'Angelo. Not a better guy to work with. Best point guard ever. Argurably the best period.
I don't believe this for a second. I had watched Luke's interview at Warriors practice and he explicitly says Warriors are his #1 priority right now because they want to do something special. He said the Lakers understand this completely too. You could say these are just works and this reporter could be right, but the tone, facial expression and attitude Luke answered the reporters question during practice when he asked Luke if he would be working on Lakers stuff on and off during the playoffs. He cares about the Warriors players and his coaches to give a half a** effort even though he just got a head coaching gig.
Could be an interesting assistant option maybe? edit- Nevermind... wishful thinking on my part. Vogel will probably find work as a lead guy elsewhere.
I specifically want specialists for assistant coaches. Get a defensive specialist. Get an offensive specialist. They don't need to be good all around coaches. Let Luke manage putting it all together, so the assistants don't need that skill. I don't care for any of these big names unless they have a rep of being a great mind offensively or defensivly.
Another really good read on Luke, this one focuses on his time with the university of Memphis http://m.ocregister.com/articles/walton-714251-pastner-coach.html HIGHLIGHTS -coaching approach -relationship with Black -got a taste of recruiting -Paster's phone blowing up with guys wanting him to put a good word in with Luke, trying to get on his staff.
I'm wondering how long it takes before people start: "Puuuuuuke" calls and how he is an idiot and doesn't understand how to sub people. I'm obviously very OK with the result. Its a much much better solution than Scott. But with that said, its going to be a tough tough task at hand. At least one constant pain in the *** (Scott) is now history.
I didn't know he coached Black in college. Probably the only person happier about this coaching change than me is Tarik Black.
