Impressive rise to the top for his age. Hope it goes better than expected, and that he ends up being our Jerry Sloan. Tired of the coaching carousel.
Hey at least Luke doesn't have to change team colors much lol. Just more of the gold. In all seriousness I like the approach that he's going to bring, not only instilling a system and teaching the guys to play team ball, but he states that relationship goes both ways, something that was severely lacking with Scott. He's willing to listen to the players if they have suggestions and put them to use if it makes sense. That's important in that it's invaluable in building a cohesive relationship between the players and coach and in the long run helps put a better product on the floor. Oh and I'll be rooting hard for Luke to win another ring this year.
I noticed there hasn't been any reaction from most of the Showtime era Lakers. Must be awkward for them.
^they're all probably still consoling byron over his firing and letting him cry on their shoulders those guys have all gone senile lately anyways. i'm sure magic and worthy would tell you that byron should've been extended
It's great to have Byron out and someone on board who knows how to communicate with this generation of players, that's already a huge improvement. Lets hope for some real talent this off season and get him some more pieces to work with. Luke has an enormous uphill battle now, it's going to take years to get this team back on track. It's going to be very interesting.. I had major doubts with the hiring of Potato, Pringles and Byron. I don't have any with Luke, which is odd considering how new he is to coaching. Maybe Luke will be the next Phil for the Lakers and bring 5+ titles.
Dude that is priceless! So happy for Luke, always had a great Bball IQ. Being the son of Bill Walton, and Luke being coached by the great Lute Olson and Phil Jackson, while also working with Steve Kerr had something to do with that. Congrats Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuke, long may you reign.
The really sad part of it is that you can guarantee that they will be ripping into Walton once there is adversity instead of supporting him. There will be adversity and loads of it as they all figure it all out together. I loved the Showtime era and the players but their cliquish behavior has been disappointing. Loyalty is fine but honesty comes with it.
Good to see his father support him. At first, he was not to keen on him taking on the Laker job which is understandable considering that it is still a work in progress albeit with a promising core but one has to start somewhere.
By page 6 in that thread, people were disgruntled with him. Luke is already better in pages of positivity!
Im so optimistic and excited about this hire that even if we dont make the playoffs for a couple more years, I wont even be upset. we will finally see the kids grow up in a system tailored to their strengths. Walton & his system will grow and evolve with the young core. Finally, some stability and direction moving forward after a few dark years since Kobe's achilles blew out. So pumped right now!
One aspect of all this is that many players are aware of his success while manning the Warriors with Kerr out. That was not easy regardless of their talent. Good vibes do travel. Walton's personality and the respect for his coaching acumen will play as considerable factors with any notable free agents out there...
Do we know Luke isn't a tactician? I mean, you may be completely right, but has Luke really ever had the chance to tacticianize?
You may be right, but at least your comment isn't jumping the gun or anything. Do you always come to unflappable conclusions about things before any evidence presents itself? You must be fun to go to movies with.
