Blatt or Ollie for me. Leaning towards Blatt, but wouldn't mind Ollie as its something new and refreshing.

Either way at this point it doesn't matter if the coaching hire fails, we are too far down that road to worry about that. If they take a chance at a fresh face now would be the perfect time.

So, Byron has been fired. Was this experience so traumatic that you started speaking in rhyme everywhere in your everyday life? :D

I don't know who you're referring to that are defending Scott, but I'll assume people on social media, and some talking heads on ESPN, maybe even Plaschke's stupid article. I saw it myself on Facebook on the Lakers announcement that he was fired, and it shocked me. A huge percentage of people were saying poor Byron, he was in a no-win situation, he had a horrible roster, he didn't deserve this, he did his job. My jaw dropped as I saw this repeated over and over with only the occasional "thank you Jesus" and someone posting his team's defensive rankings his last 5 seasons or so breaking that up. Then it hit me that the people defending B0ron probably didn't watch many Laker games, are casual fans, don't know much about basketball, or were fans of his as a player and don't want to criticize. So, I let it go right there and moved on, because those fans clearly don't know what they are talking about, and thank god the FO didn't listen to people like that and the worst coach in history is gone.

I know very little about Blatt, I'd be interested to hear why he is your choice. People seem to be hating on him, but he got the Cavs to the finals in his first year with no Love for 2 rounds, and no Irving in the finals and they still made it a series. Then again, I don't know if that was him or LeBron, as Byron got the Nets to the finals too, but that clearly was Kidd. I don't know if Blatt is a good teacher, I don't know what system he runs, I don't know much about him at all. I'd like to hear the case for him. At the moment I'm indifferent on him, but he kinda has that Mike Brown Cavs stink on him, in that I don't know what he is without the LeBron crutch. And if we sign another Mike Brown I might lose my will to wake up in the morning.

I don't think Blatt is another Mike Brown. Not even close really. Every Cavs game I watched over the past year plus up until Blatt was fired the Cavs shared the ball, they weren't nearly as reliant on LeBron as previously with Brown, they actually ran some good sets, yes he is a Princeton guy, but he made some adjustments to it to better fit his personnel and I'd imagine he'd do the same here.

I've been saying this outlandish prediction to my friends just so I can toot my horn in case it happens, and its admittedly really crazy and unlikely, but I think there's a (very) small chance Lebron opts out and signs with us. As much as I hate him, he makes us instant championship contenders and suddenly recruiting other free agents is much easier as well.

Not so sure I want Blatt.

Well that's why I'm asking for opinions on him, because I know so little. I can't stand the Cavs/LeBron, so I don't watch their games. I saw some playoffs last year, I saw every finals game, I saw the Cavs games vs us, and not much else. I will avoid watching them at all costs. Blatt could be a great coach for all I know, and like I said he just wasn't what the Kang wanted so he had to go, unfairly, for their boy Lue.

F*** LeBron. I'd hire Blatt so LeBron WOULDN'T come here. I want to win, but not by selling my soul and making a deal with the devil.

I don't know that he's a great coach yet. Blatt obviously is still inexperienced when it comes to the NBA game however I also believe he's a better fit for our current group of players. There isn't a prima Donna who is also GM of the team like LeBron that Blatt has to contend with. LeBron clearly never had any respect for him. Why the Cavs hired him to begin with was beyond me. I believe Blatt thought he'd be coaching the Cavs team pre LeBron (Kyrie, Waiters, TT, etc.). Overall he did about as good a job as you can do having to deal with that clown and I thought he's shown all the good traits of being a really good coach at this level. Got the team to buy into a system, had a good defensive scheme in place, good lineups that actually make sense, and made some nice adjustments in the playoffs as well.

The top of my list has to be Kevin Ollie and Luke. After them its a short list of Messina, Izzo and Blatt. Just no more of these old retreads. Do not want any of Phil's old "proteges".

luke is a good choice but his inexperience worries me. also, does he know how to develop young players? i don't think he has any sort of experience in that area. still, i wouldn't mind seeing him get the job. a fresh new face is exactly what this team needs.

ollie i'd say is the better choice. he's proven that he knows how to work with young players and seems to be one of those coaches who the players can easily relate to. the thing i like about both these guys is that they have the new school mentality and are young. no more of these recycled coaches like byron. the old school, abrasive style doesn't work in today's NBA.

van gundy is a very interesting choice. the fact that he's been out of the league for almost 10 years is a bit of a concern however. i like him because he's an excellent defensive coach but that also scares me because mike brown was also given that same label and we all know how that turned out. van gundy is easily the better coach and i could actually see the D improving under him but his teams have never been any good on offense and with pieces like russell, randle, and clarkson, the offense needs to be addressed as well. if he can bring a proven, offense minded assistant with him. i really wouldn't mind seeing him get the job. although i have a feeling he's holding out for the houston job.

messina i like simply due to his resume. quite impressive to say the least. i'd say he's got the highest basketball IQ out of all the choices and i like that he's worked under pop these past few years so his knowledge of the NBA game has likely grown in that time. with his body of work and experience, i'd assume that he's got plenty of experience in developing players.

    and then.....

fisher i'd only like to see as an assistant. as head coach? hell no

blatt is an interesting choice but another ex-cavs coach who took the cavs to the finals and lost? no thanks. reminds me too much of mike brown

mark jackson is someone who i'm very, very worried the FO will become enamored with because of the warriors current success and hire based off of that. keep this guy far away from the lakers

jay wright i'm not even considering to be honest. don't know much about him but i really couldn't see him leaving villanova

rambis. LOL. please, no more of phil's guys

    kobe? :ShaqOh2::Crazyartest:

mike dunleavy is a better coach than byron scott, should be getting his interview any day now. and as i always say during these coaching searches that seem to happen once every few years, i'm very worried that the FO might actually hire him this time

It's certainly outlandish, but you can certainly bet your bottom b**** that Mitch and Jim are praying for it to be a possibility. LeBron makes them immediately competitive and would nearly guarantee Durant's arrival as well. Durant and LeBron on the same team? With some young bucks that can pick up the slack during the season? Yeah I think those two would have to think about it at least, but of course they're also sitting on teams that are guaranteed to be competitive so... Tough to really pry them away.

    I'm not!

Outside of the organizations clear floundering, we're still talking about the premiere destination in the NBA. The Lakers have a chance to update their image this summer in a big way and I'm absolutely certain there's a number of people looking at that opportunity with gleaming eyes. I'm not just talking about the basketball side either. The Lakers have a reputation now of being stuck in the past. If I were a designer, a graphic designer, a music editor, a cheerleading coach, if I had something new to sell to the franchise, I'd make the pitch now. There's something great about the legacy of this franchise, but that doesn't mean we have to be stuck in the past. We can update everything about ourselves and step into the present and future while still glorifying the past.

If I'm a coach? There's at least 3-4 really great young prospects to work on. There's the willing funding of the organization to help me with whatever I want or need. There's no greater stage in the NBA to make a name for yourself! Any coach should be interested in the position.

That's what we sell anyway... The reality is the shine on this apple isn't all that glamorous, but we should be at least trying to build on that front.

Ditto on Ollie. His biggest plus is that if he brings us even 1% closer to landing KD, it's easily worth it.

And if KD doesn't come, it's not like we're hiring Kevin's "uncle" who's only coached 4th grade ymca league. Ollie is a proven coach and proven winner, even at the NCAA level, which at least tells me he knows how to handle young kids.

Looked him up, he just took the head coaching job at Tulane in March, no way we look at him, he's set. This is my hope anyway, because Dunleavy is a lateral move.

Not surprised about Ollie. Luke is my first choice, but it's literally neck and neck. Luke being a head coach for half a season is what gives him the edge imo. I was very impressed how he got Golden State to play the way they did coming off a championship. Still Ollie would be a fine coach. He took the challenge of having to teach and get those young guys at Conneticut to buy in, mature, and playing winning basketball. I think he'd love the challenge of doing the same in the NBA especially for a franchise like the Lakers. We really need someone like him. A teacher who can also motivate, but also knows today's modern game well.
